98 - Post-Assen
Well a week
after Assen, and all I can say is that I had a great
time. Surprising? No!... Assen is and always will be the cathedral of
motorracing. Not only the track, (which they will fuckup in the next
year :'( ), but the crowds and the ambiance of the whole weekend is
fantastic, I invite you all personally to join me for next year!
But what
happened to Biaggi this weekend, and what was with his
uncle...?
John Hopkins
on the matter: (source: Road
Racer X )
“It’s just Max. He’s
always doing it, always out playing the fool. It’s just completely
dangerous, the way his tactics are. He does it on purpose, because he
thinks he’s screwing with you. It happens all the time. If anyone new
comes into the series—and I had my share of it—when he’s going to pass
you, he passes in the closest possible way. There could be miles on the
track to pass you, and he comes by the closest he possibly could. In
qualifying for Mugello, he came by and actually clipped my leg and
knocked my leg off the footpeg. It’s just stupid. My mechanics always
push the bike out, and I walk out and get on my bike in pit lane. The
Honda team just starts the bikes inside of the garage and then the
riders come out. Max just doesn’t look. It’s like this is blank [holds
hand up by the side of his face]. ‘No one’s there! The Roman
emperor is coming out!’ He thinks he’s royalty in the series, even when
he’s just walking around. He needs to get punched in his nose.”

It
seems to me that Biaggi has really lost his mind now. It's sad to hear
this from a great champion in the past. But this makes me part of the
"Anti Biaggi Fan Club", sad but true!
Another thing I've heard or read, not sure, but the interesting
"battle" that's unfolding between Rossi and Melandri, for sure we all
know Melandri will not win the championship this year! But next year, I
think it was Julian Ryder who wrote something like: "It will be
interesting to see how this will be between the two "friends" as far as
Rossi tolerates you to be his friend. The question is when will Rossi
start his mindgames with Marco Melandri"
Well I (Wilbert Velthove, TT98) can be brief about this matter, if this
happens, Rossi lost one of his fans! He may be big and all and the
greatest, but I will not let Melandri down!
I also have to
give out a special
thank
you to a friend of mine who brought me home a wonderfull poster he got
from Melandri. Marco personally signed it for me with the text "TT-
Friend". Big up to RODNEYUk1 #41 and Marco Melandri!
Next week I
will be back with some video's and pictures I made at the
dutch TT I can tell you I stood next to Rossi within a 2 metres range!
