  News 05/11/06  Round 15. Japan : Motegi

SkiDer is 2006 MotoGP World Champion, crowned in Motegi after his 10th race victory of the season.

In another incredible race of what has been an amazing season, SkiDer achieved the ultimate accolade of being crowned 2006 World Champion. The Spanish star's victory coupled with SFW's and Seby's early crashes, gave SkiDer his first ever MotoGP Title in Japan, Motegi.
Starting from second on the grid, the Oasics Racing Team rider laid his chips down early pulling sharply to the right and nearly touching SFW, who led the race in the early stages. Seby and SFW both fell down in the first lap leaving SkiDer in a comfortable leading position, on which he stuck until reaching the chequered flag, 9.006 seconds in front of second placed rider, Biggie. SkiDer has won the title in fashion way with two records: 7 victories in a row and the biggest distance ever between the race winner and the second-placed rider.
MGR came in third, his best ever result in MotoGP500online, a performance which came only 2 weeks after fellow country-man Vouks stepped on the podium for the first time in his career.
Seby managed to finish the race in 4th place, ahead of MorpheusGT who made a brilliant race to finish in 5th place and secure his best ever result.

SkiDer:
"Thanks to everybody, its a huge satisfaction to win this championship because this is the best gp500 online championship in the world and the best riders in the world so I cant believe it yet, I always raced looking to have fun race by race and I enjoyed alot this season, my best year so far indeed.
Few months ago I've won the WSS champ (gr8 champ too) and now this MotoGP champ, thanks to all who made it possible!
My start of the season wasnt so good as I expected, but after 2 disastrous races, I kept my head cold and I made very good races until now. The key of the victory was ride as constant as I could, from the first lap to the last lap, thats my strategy. But every race was different, I believed in my own possibilities and thats all.
However as I said last week, many guys have quit this gr8 champ and the level (not in laptimes) has dropped compared to 2005. Last year there were almost 7 or 8 guys fighting for the victory, this year we were only 3 or 4, its sad but I hope a new generation of riders will come soon.
About Motegi, 2 weeks ago I wasnt able to ride constant under 44s, I made my first practice on monday and it was a disaster, new track, new setups, etc. But fortunatelly I started to catch some feeling with the track and the bike on that weekend with some constant laps in 43.med. The next week I made some gr8 online races with Seby and some1 else and I could find a gr8 setup for the race. Thanks m8s. Always we go faster when we practice with the guys at the same level. Personally I dont like to practice alone in free practice lol.
Qualyfing: I made my pb of the weekend with a 42.917, I'm glad, I thought for a pole position, but SFW beat me by few thousands hehe.
Race: everyone made a gr8 start, but at the chicane the Seby's Yamaha highsided and he crashed omg. Few moments after, SFW looked behind to see what happend and... he went off the track and crashed also WTF what a shame, I'd expected to have a nice battle lol. Oh well, then I was alone all the race and it was boring!! lol.I've enjoyed the last laps as never, I made some slides here and there, and at the finish, a nice wheelie. Finally, my battle its not over yet, I'll try to add some points for my team standings."

Seby:
"Big Congratulations SkiDer, the MotoGP 2006 World Champion in GP500, the title everybody dreams about but only the best achieve. The color is GOLD because you sure were as gold this season. And what a way to win the title, with 2 records: 7 victories in a row and the biggest distance from the winner to the 2nd placed guy, 9.006 seconds. Very dominating performance this season and there's no doubt about the champion this year despite 2005 and 2004 when the champion was one of the best guys, now you were the best by far.
10 victories from 15 races and there are still 2 more GPs, will you try to equal Doohan's record of 12 victories in a single season? you sure will but it won't be easy.
What could be better than to win the championship in Rossi style, sometimes you've won by a big distance, sometimes you got lucky but every time you were the one to cross the finish line in first spot and thats something not everyone is able to do.
But remember: 'We all fight for our Nation, for Glory... but especially for Fun!' said Transalp once. SkiDer, you've also been a killjoy, now that you've won the title please for God's sake take it easy on them victories and let others enjoy racing too.
I fell in my race, right in the first lap, thats why the gap was so big but I was also lucky because SFW also fell and I could pass him till the end and reduce the gap between us to 7 points with 2 GPs left.
I want to say only one thing:
Hey SFW, how do you like the pressure now? HAHAHAHA I'm a bastard!
Also congratulations to Biggie and especially to MGR for his first podium ever, the hard work in practice finally paid off, well done mate.
Very good result by MorpheusGT too, 5th is a very good result.
I'm a bit sad for Yvos because in practice he did 17:30 and with a good race he could have been 2nd in this race, his best results ever. Dont worry mate, it happend to me too a long time ago and I know how it feels but thats racing, you will do it someday.
Now its time to relax a bit and then start working for Estoril because the race is in only 5 days.
Good luck to everyone."

Dolz:
"CONGRATULATIONS SkiDer!
Simply unstoppable, after your first two races of the season anyone would'nt think it was possible to win the championship with two races to go, but since your first win in Turkey only SFW (2 wins) and Seby (1 win) have taken the wins away from you, and you still made the podium on them races. Total Dominance.
Well done m8!"

Gaz&Slide:
"So who will be the 1st to congratulate SkiDer for the title 2006??? Me??? OK!
In Motegi, your 7th win in a row smashed all the concurrence! what a gap!!!
After 2 first difficult rounds, you had a perfect serie: 10 wins + 3 more podiums (all in a row) in 15 races, no doubt about it, U r the rider of the year! And I don't forget the title in WSS Winter Championship 2006 (6 wins + 2 more podiums in 10 races)...
Anyway, I have a thought to SFW, a great champion too but so unlucky in championships... Like "Poulidor" in the Tour de France, you were always on the podium but not at the best place: 2nd in 2004, 3rd in 2005, 2nd in Winter WSS 2006 and finally 2nd or 3rd in 2006... Respect man!
GG also MGR: you followed the Greek way to the podium just 15 days after Vouks' one!
About my race, I can resume it in few words: I wasn't fast enough, I made a lot of mistakes but I didn't crash and THAT is already a miracle.
For the championship, it's nevertheless a good weekend cos I overtook Jarvis_Co. I really wanted to ride with U but I had a deconnection and I had to restart PC. I saw Seby's session when it was done but I missed it by maybe 5 or 10s: really frustrating...
Cya in Estoril!!!"

Next up is Estoril,
see you there.
