Round 2. Spain
: Jerez
Skider strikes back to take victory number 15 in his MotoGP career.
Skider bowled all challengers to take victory at the Grand Premio de
Espana and put himself at the head of the overall classification. The
reigning World Champion was never troubled after passing poleman Seby
midway through the opening lap, and ended the race with a masterful
display of how to lead a Grand Prix.
"Skideros" has won at Jerez for the first time in his career and marked
the victory with a special celebration alongside his fan club.
Hyped up as a battle between Skider and Seby for dominance of the
Spanish circuit, the race was never a duel between the two riders. As
the Oasics Suzuki rider continually upper his race pace, Seby was left
with little to do but follow his rival.
Whilst clearly unable to keep up with Skider, Seby was closely troubled
by SFW who had a slower start but caught up with the Romanian as the
laps went by. A thrilling battle in lap 6 saw both riders side by side
for the entire lap until SFW went wide on a corner, not only leaving
Seby one second in front but also allowing Vouks to provide a real
podium threat. In the last three laps SFW put in a very strong
challenge to catch up with Seby, lapping in low 35s. The "Dutch Devil"
had no problems passing Seby and going for a safe 2nd place thanks to
his better tyre choice. Seby could do nothing to prevent SFW's late
charge and had to settle for 3rd place.
For the 'Dutch Devil' the Gran Premio de Espana marjed a welcome return
to the podium after an assured ride.
Aiming to give the Spanish fans another reason to be happy, Kaiser7K
was right up there with the top guys although starting from further
down the grid. The exciting rider finished in fourth after some
excellent overtaking, just edging out Transalp. The Italian rider
himself was once again mature in his overtaking choices, and was
rewarded with some valuable points for the World Championship.
Vouks, starting from the front row for the second time in a row, saw
himself in the grass before the end of the race as a result from the
battle he had with SFW. He kept his head down and rounded off the
top six after, ahead of his team mate Max.
Biggie made a fantastic start, but was unable to get near the leaders
and dropped off towards the end of the race. Jarvis_Co and Thunder
completed the top ten.
Guishermo suffered a crash on lap 8, having just overtaken Kaiser7K,
but picked the Honda RC212V up to finish the race, albeit in 22nd.
Skider Oasics
NoGrip Racing (winner, 17:29.781):
"I'm sincerelly surprised, I had a regular race without big mistakes
and
riding very constant, but my times weren't too good as I hoped, the
test we made few weeks before helped me alot. Its fantastic to go to
vacation, come back home and see the results.
Congratulations to the podium guys SFW & Seby and big gg to
Kaiser7K for his best result ever. Is good to see Transalp in the top5
aswell but his performance is as good to fight for the victory, we all
knows it. The level of the grid is very good and this motivates me to
give all my best race by race, it's also nice to see over 60 riders
again in this 2nd race of the season, GG. Hope we can see big battles
till the end of the season. Im happy to see my team in 1st position
with Jarvis_Co making good results again in the top10 and very
dissapointed for my other team mates crashing again, come on guys!
See u all in Turkey!"
SFW Kawasaki
Racing (2nd, 17:32.243):
"Congratulation to Skider with this great race and well deserved
victory.
I had a great race with Seby, Guishermo, Vouks and Transalp, we had
some nice and close racing and many overtaking.
Hey Seby...... watch out for those last 2 laps.
It feels good to take the first points of the season and I'm also glad
that my teammate darkJr had a crash-free race, this is a good base for
the next races and hopefully to be able to fight for points in the 2nd
part of the season.
Cya on the track, watch out for the mean green racing machines!"
Seby Lords Of
Shadow (3rd, 17:33.815):
"Congratulations to Skider for the victory, last year you kicked our
ass
after u started the season very bad, i dont even want to imagine how it
will be this year.
Also GG to SFW, u beat me this time but next time i'll squeal like a
pig after i'll whoop ur ass.
Also a huge GG to Kaiser7K, best result ever? hehe keep up the good
work!
I'm also happy for Bradders who improved very much in the past few
races. I remember last year u were fighting with DarkBringer in
Academy, now you fight with Class A guys. GG
This hasnt been the perfect weekend, Skid had to race early, Guishermo
and Vouks both fell....
I did my race with SFW, Guishermo, Trans and Vouks. I started from pole
position and never looked back. Only fight i had was with SFW but
wooohooo what a fight, we fought from the first corner almost till the
end. In the first 2-3 laps we had a big fight, we were side by side.
After 3-4 laps SFW made a small mistake so i took advantage and took
the lead for few laps. I saw Vouks 0.5 behind me, then Guishermo and in
the last 4-5 laps SFW came back, for about 2-3 laps i could keep him
behind me but once he passed me i couldnt stay with him and i also gave
up with 1 lap to go because there was no point to push hard, i knew i
had no chance to beat Skider and to push so hard for 2nd place was just
not my goal. This is the start of the season and i dont want to risk
too much, i'll show my skill after 3-4 GPs after i'll have some more
points.
I'm a bit sad because i was fooled by SFW this time, he also beat me
with his strategy. I had med-soft tyres and i thought SFW had soft-soft
(as he used in practice) but actually he had med-med. Since i thought
he had softs i didnt push too much at the begining of the race, i just
wanted to stay with him because i thought i could beat him in the end
due to my med front tyre. Only at the end of the race i realised he had
meds but it was too late, i couldnt do the same times as him with my
soft rear tyre. I lost on my own hand.
Btw the lap times we did were much slower than in practice...
For example in practice i did high 37 in the first lap, 34.5 in the
second lap, 34.1 in the 3rd lap and 35.4 in the last lap. But in
official race it was a different story... 39 in the first lap then 35s
instaid of 34s, i did only 1 lap in 34s (that 34.6), besides that all
laps in 35 and 36.2 in the last lap. Thats how hard it is in official
races when you race against riders at the same level, we were all
slower by 4-5 seconds compared to practice (thats if you wonder why we
are so far behind Skider). I know i had pole position but i'm a bit sad
because i still cant do my best in qualifying. I did few 33.7s when
other riders did their official quals but i just couldnt go faster in
my own qual session. Pfoa again a huge story, per total congratulations
to everybody and thank you."
Kaiser7K
Nitram Racing (4th, 17:42.164):
"Yeah, it´s my best position ever!!!
It´s an amazing result!!! Incredible!!! Thanks to Eus, me team manager
& team mate, to Biggie and Fonta teams mates, to Schumi01 a big
friend! Thanks all!!! I´m very happy, i didn´t think that i could be 4º
here, there was too many fast people... I started in second line and I
had a great start, and in the first corner i was 1º!! I continued in
first position until the last corner, CrazyBoy and Thunder pass me, and
i follow them. I followed them, and when they were 2
second below me, Thunder felt in Sito Pons, and in the same lap,
CrazyBoy felt in Criville... I was 1º another time!!! I continued first
all laps, i controlled the time with Thunder in 8-9 seconds and
finally, I won my race! I´m sure that too many people have fallen, but
I tried to be fast and more important, constant!!! And the most
important, not to fall!!!
Congratulations for the podium!!! There race must be very nice!!!
See you m8 and have good luck for the next race!"
Guishermo
Hurricane Miu Racing Team (22nd, 18:00.623):
"Congratulations to the podium, Skider for his fantastic win, SFW for
his 2º place and his race group win and Seby for the 3º with that soft
tyre, I don´t know how you managed to ride the bike in the last laps.
Also congratulations to Kaiser, he deserves that 4º place
This weekend was for sure the worst for Hurricane Racing Team, I did
too many mistakes (I think the organization have been fair with my
combined race time) and Madok got his GP500 closed when sbody talked to
him by Hamachi while he was racing...
It´s a pity because he was pretty fast despite the fact that he hadn´t
trained very much.
We will come back stronger than ever in Turkey, see
you there and be careful with that fifht gear corner!"
Fonnia
Tornado Racing Team (30th, 18:07.150):
"GG everyone, from winner to the last participant.
Well, it´s not a bad result at all. I was about a second per lap faster
during training, but the fact is that, with my skills, it´s always
better to ride a second slower and don´t fall or go to the grass.
I rode with a group that i didn´t know, cause the room that i was dated
for was full when i tried to get in. My race was really peaceful. Since
the begining i pushed hard (hard for my level, don´t laugh top boys...)
and rode alone the whole race. Having the track completly free for me
made my starting nerves get calmed soon. Tyres worked perfect, I had
MD/SFt and finished without problems. I want to thank Biggie for
trainings and pit (i forgot to use it man! shame on me!) Doohan05 also
for good teaching, and Fonta for all those laps. U still win me,
rapaz... Maybe Istanbul will be my chance! Cya all."
TT98-XL VLT
Racing TT98 Design (31th, 18:08.045):
"Well Jerez didn't go how I expected it to go at all, in tests I did
much better then the actual race but as we all know, tests don't count.
I cudn't do a consistent pace of 37.5's as I wanted to do throughout
the race. With this bad result it means I have been set back to 2nd
place in the B-Class championship, which really sucks because I wanted
a better result to defend my 1st place, I guess now I have to step up
the game a little bit more.
Well congrats to the leaders! and congrats to Fonta! Ciao!"
