Round 3. Turkey
: Istanbul
Guishermo returns to winning ways in the third race of the season at
Istanbul.
Skider sees Turkish three-peat as tough task. Skider has been the only
winner at the Istanbul Park circuit since the Turkish track welcomed
MotoGP in 2005.
The Spaniard took victory at the first ever Turkish Grand Prix, and
repeated the feat last year from 4th on the grid.
This year tho, he had a much better rival in Guishermo who edged Skider
by +0.595 to take his second race victory of the season.
Guishermo took his second victory of the 2007 season at the Grand Prix
of Turkey in a classic race, which saw more than a match for last
year's exciting duel.
The Honda rider was virtually gifted the lead early on, when the
pressure from him forced poleman Seby to run along the grass at the end
of the third lap.
Skider in second place was unable to trouble the flying Guishermo, but
had plenty of his own pursuers nipping at his toes.
The Spaniard had started from second on the grid, and was battling hard
with Vouks in fearless fashion leading to a near-miss between the two
riders. The move put Skider in second, where he stayed until the
chequered flag, and Vouks right back into the trick of the chasing pack
but he managed to finish in third.
Seby came in 4th, lucky to hold off SFW on the line. The two never had
a real battle but SFW gave Seby enough pressure to make him do mistakes
in the last lap, mistakes which cost him a podium finish.
Biggie threatened the top guys at the start of the race as he looked to
make it a first podium in over half a year, but couldn't make his
challenge stick with the top 5 breaking away after few laps. Dolz was
pipped on the line by Saber120 after holding firm throughout the race
in seventh, ahead of MorpheusGT and Yvos.
Guishermo
Hurricane Miu Racing Team (winner, 17:37.514):
"Wow winner again! I was upset with my disastrous Jerez race and I
started riding here a week ago... I had a good pace but I was a little
bit worried with the tyres issue, I decided to use soft tyres in both
wheels, and I seems to have been a good choice...
My race was quite difficult at the beginning, I raced with Seby, SFW
and Transalp and I thought that I had to make a gap soon because SFW
and Seby had one med tyre on their choice... But I couldn´t make that
gap, I had a hard battle in the first 3 laps with Seby and finally
passed him but I thought that maybe I had wasted my race in those 3
laps... After passing Seby I could make the gap I wanted, I started to
make the lap-times I did in practice and got a 2 second advantage, but
the tyres started to loose performance and didn´t know if the gap would
be enough... Surprisingly I rode faster than Seby and SFW at the end, I
suppose they did some mistakes because they had harder tyres...
See you in Shanghai!"
Skider Oasics
NoGrip Racing (2nd, 17:38.109):
"Congratulations Guishermo, nice victory with another close finish, GG
to Vouks for his podium and everybody who raced.
I'm happy with my 2nd place, I didn't expected a podium this time
because my performance wasn't enough for it a couple of days ago, but
fortunatlly I had time to practice and manage a good pace for the
official race. I have to thank all the people who raced with me in
trainning races this past week, it was so difficult to learn all the
lines to do this time, i had some nice crashes lol, but finally I
caught the pace necessary to stay in front and fight for the podium.
This time I had some fun in the official race, raced with Vouks and
Biggie, had a bad start lol, before to arrive in the first corner my
game made little freezes and I couldnt know where I was in some
moments, fortunatlly I didnt crash but I lost a little bit time there.
Vouks started pretty well and took the lead with Biggie but few corners
after I overtook the Nitram rider to catch Vouks swiftly. Just 2 laps
after I caught Vouks and I wanted to overtook him but he returned my
attack and we rode some laps together, nice laps btw, until 3 laps to
go when he made a mistake and I could open up a hole. I lost some
concentration few corners after making a mistake also and ride into
46.1 (when I usually made 45.low) but Vouks couldnt catch me again. Per
total my race was not so bad, Im happy anyway, its a good way stay in
the podium 3/3 races untill now. I hope I can do it again next time in
Shanghai but it won't be easy."
Vouks MotoGP Greece Racing Team
(3rd, 17:40.797):
"Hi and GG to all who guys who raced (45)... hope it stays like that.
Special GG to Guisermo...
About my race i will say that i was also on soft tyres choice i tested
alot and was under 46 or little up in the last laps. All that in
offline races, of course.
The official race was not exactly so and Skider won our room.
Of course i am happy with 1st podium in 2007 and hope its not the last!
See you all in Shanghai."
Seby Lords Of
Shadow (4th, 17:41.398):
"Congratulations Guishermo, very strong start of the season.
GG to Skider and thanks (u know for what).
Also GG to Vouks, i told ya that winning a race is damn hard, in time
u'll get there.
I didn't practice for this GP as much as i did for Losail and Jerez and
i was much slower this time. Most of my practice was with soft tyres, i
wanted to beat the track record but i did many mistakes lap by lap so i
didnt start practicing with medium tyres until i had a good feeling
with softs. I begun work on medium tyres only on Sunday, race day, so i
didn't have enough time to put too many laps under my belt with race
tyres. The result says it all, i did very well with soft tyres (4th
pole in a row) but a bit slow in race (med front tyre).
After my race, when i hosted other riders i did a fun race with
soft-soft and my pace was much better than i had in my official race, i
could do low 44s in the race and now thats what i regret the most, that
i didnt choose the correct tyres for this race.
In my official race i was able to stay in front of Guishermo for about
2 laps and a half, then he passed me and i never had the chance to
catch him because i made too many little mistakes, because the lack of
practice i couldnt follow my usuall lines. SFW was also behind me (i
never had the chance to fight with him) and at the end of the race i
was a bit stressed, made many mistakes in the last lap which cost me
the podium (i did 46.8 instaid of 45.8). Thats racing,
sometimes u win, sometimes u lose. Now i have to focus on Shanghai
because the first 3 races are over and its time to say 'no more safe
races', now its time to push hard so either i end up better than
before, either i crash. Compared to last year i've done much better in
the first 3 GPs, for me the start of the season is very hard and i'm
happy with what i've done so far this year, now its time to prove that
i deserve to be up there."
SFW Kawasaki
Racing (5th, 17:42.105):
"Congratulation to Guishermo with the strong race and a great victory,
respect to the tyre choice and great laptimes at the end.
Also well done to Skider and Vouks with the podium and finally for
Vouks, a good result after the dissapointment in the first 2 races.
I wasn't that confident with my riding here and so could only follow
the riders in front of me, a few times i could get close to Seby but
then every time i made a small mistake and Seby could go away from me
again.
Next race i'll try to challenge the podium and maybe even challenge
Seby for the win. Cya"
Jarvis_Co Oasics
NoGrip Racing (19th, 18:05.463):
"Well done to all guys on the podium, specially to Guishermo! He's
proving he can fight for the title this year.
This makes me happy, because i think this year we'll see an amazing
season, with 5-6 top riders fighting for each race, so it will be
funnier to see.
On the other side, the global level is growing. I must push hard if i
want to repeat my last season standings place at the end of the
championship. This race, i was only 5 secs behind the 12th place, but i
could only finish 19th, almost out of points. I can only say i need to
work hard.
Finally, i wanted to thank Seby for his Istanbul track quick guide. I
only practised on Sunday, and with the guide, i could find an average
pace easily that saved me from a no-points race.
Cya next race!"
With this victory, Guishermo moves up to second position in the Rider
Standings, with a total of 60
points, level with Seby, while Skider is leading the standings by 80
points.
Vouks is 4th with a total of 50 points, only 4 points in front of
Biggie, and 9 in front of SFW.
Transalp is 7th with 36 points with Dolz 8th with 32 points. Kaiser7K
and Saber120 complete the top 10, 30 and 27 points.
Oasics NoGrip Racing is first in the Team Standings with 109 points.
Lords Of Shadow are second, only 4 points behind the Spanish team.
Nitram Racing is 3rd, 27 points behind Oasics. Hurricane Miu Racing and
MotoGP Greece Racing completes the top 5.
Suzuki is first in the Constructors Standings, 17 points in front of
Yamaha and 20 points in front of Moriwaki. Kawasaki and Honda complete
the top 5.
In the Qualifying Award, Seby took a relaxing lead after only 4
qualifying sessions. Skider is 2nd, 0.6 behind Seby with Vouks 3rd, 1
second
adrift of the leader.
In the Hot Lap Award Skider leads Guishermo and Seby by 0.1 and 0.9
seconds.
Skider also leads the Total Time Award, over 9 seconds to Seby after
only 3 races.
