  News 06/05/07  Round 4. China : Shanghai

Vouks takes the first victory of his career after a thrilling battle with Seby to the line, edging the Romanian rider by only 0.006 to set a new world record.

Vouks was the worthy victor of todays's Grand Prix of China, taking his first ever win in MotoGP500online. The Greek rider puts himself into the history books after taking the race victory by only 0.006 in front of second placed rider, Seby. The previous record was between Transalp and Zeramic, only 0.039 at Donington in 2005.
Vouks led the race from start to finish, bolting from second place on the grid and leaving the rest of the 50-rider field trailing in his wake. Vouks established a two-second advantage over the chasing pack (Guishermo, Seby, Skider, SFW and Transalp) in the first part of the race and then held strong under late pressure from Seby to take a memorable first win by only 0.006.
After initially fighting with Seby for second place on the opening lap, Skider lost 2 seconds when he was involved in an incident. He managed to come back into an intense battle for third place with Guishermo. The reigning World Champion eventually got the better of Guishermo.
SFW could only manage to fight for the top spot in the starting laps but later in the race he progressively lost ground until the chequered flag, finishing in fifth place, almost 3 seconds behind the race winner. Biggie, starting from 6th place on the grid for the second time in a row, saw himself in the grass before the end of the race as a result from the battle he had with Transalp. He kept his head down and rounded off the top six after, ahead of Italian veteran, Transalp. Saber120, Doohan05 and CrazyBoy also joined in the skirmish with Biggie and Transalp before eventually crossing the line in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively, whilst Kaiser7K came home in a lonely eleventh.

Vouks MotoGP Greece Racing Team (winner, 16:47.983):
"I joined this championship at mid season 2005 and finally I win a race (super race I will say) where we all were very fast and we all fought for the win. I know it's hard to lose a race from some other things (like lag or the no-coll file) but this has also happend to me and for sure to more ppl in this championship.
So we first need to lern how to lose and after that the win is very sweet (not Sweetie from the champ lolololol), the taste for victory."

Seby Lords Of Shadow (2nd, 16:47.989):
"Congratulations to all the podium guys because in this race, on track, we were all winners.
The lag + the no-coll file decided the final results and it's a shame because on track the story was different.
My strategy was to race with soft-soft tyres and built a big gap in the first half of the race because I knew Skider had soft-medium tyres and he would be fast in the last laps. I also knew that Vouks would use soft-soft tyres but in practice he was a bit slower than me so all my attention was upon Skider. I started the race pretty good but while I was accelerating out of the second corner I was hit by one of the riders and I lost more than a second, this messed up my strategy and instaid of building up a gap in the first 3-4 laps I had to fight with Guishermo, Skider, SFW and Transalp. It took me about 3-4 laps to get morally over the incident and to escape from them. Vouks was 1 second and a half in front of me, I didn't push too hard so I wouldn't make mistakes, I just stayed calm and did my thing. With 3 laps to go I caught Vouks and we fought side by side until the end. In the last lap I managed to pass him but I couldn't escape. On the back straight we were side by side but I had a bit better advantage when I accelerated out of the hairpin and also took the last corner pretty well, I looked back just before the finish line and I saw Vouks about 200 meters behind me (around 0.5 seconds) and Skider 1 second further back. I crossed the finish line first and I was very happy with the result. The race ended but when I saw the lobby results, surprise, surprise, Vouks was in front of me by 0.006. I was very furious because not only that I got hit by someone and lost a second at the start but I was also robbed of my result because of lag. If I knew we were so close to each other I would have pushed much harder in the last few corners, unfortunately I didn't know that, on my screen I had a relaxing advantage. Watching the replay I saw how Skider also had problems with the no-coll file and he lost about 2 seconds, he could have also won the race. That's why I prefer to say congratulations to all 3 of us because we all deserved the victory. Unfortunately, the results and standings were decided by lag. Vouks was very lucky in this race, he was the only one who didn't have problems with the no-coll file or the lag so he won the race. Very lucky indeed, for that I can say GG.
I'm happy to regain the second position in the standings but I would have preferred the results to be fair (not affected by lag) even if I would have lost the race even worse. I'm also happy with my team's place in the team standings, we're finally first after about 1 year."

Guishermo Hurricane Miu Racing Team (4th, 16:49.242):
"Well well well, I'm quite satisfied with my result, 4th is ok after what I hoped after qualifying session... I raced with Vouks, Seby, Skider, SFW and Transalp, and it was an exciting race!!! After qualifying I was a little bit slower than Seby Vouks and Skider, so I didn't thought that I would fight for the victory. At the beginning of the race Vouks took a little advantage in the first lap and made a little gap, then Seby caught him and I was fighting with SFW for 4th place...
I improved my fastest lap during the race by 0.4 tenths and we caught Skider and were closing the gap to Seby and Vouks, but the lag took me and Skider out of the track in the slow corner before the long right hand corner before the long straight. I lost around 1 second and Skider lost much time too, but he recovered and almost won the race despite the bug. I'm very happy with this result, I improved my pace and during the qualifying session I realized that I did a mistake doing the setup, I had a very bad setup in the first gear and I was losing around 0.2 tenths in the slow corner after the long straight, I´m sure that if I hadn't made that mistake in the setup I would have been closer, but that´s my fault.
At the end, the result shows that Vouks is the winner, but Seby was the winner in his screen because of the lag and didn't push too hard because he thought he was the winner, Vouks said that Seby in his screen was quite behind him and Skider suffered the bug, so we have 3 winners but this is online racing and Vouks is the real winner, I hope this situation won't happen again, GG Vouks, GG Seby, GG Skider and GG SFW, I enjoyed the race very much!"

SFW Kawasaki Racing (5th, 16:50.853):
"Congratulation to Vouks for the great race and a great victory, this wasn't a fast hotlap or a lonely race but a hard fight with 5 other top riders in the same room and the strongest one has won it. Well done to Seby despite some misfortune in the race, he fought back all the way to the finish line, also well done to Skider...after a incident by few laps to go, he made an amazing recovery and almost won the race!
I've enjoyed the race very much despite being a little off pace to challenge the victory but I had a nice fight with Guishermo and had the best view of the drama in front of me.
I had a good start but soon on the first lap I made a mistake and everyone got past me, then I could settle a bit and could do some good times but eventually my lack of practice and never doing a race distance on race tyres made me lose some ground in the last 2 laps.
I know it's frustrating to blame all kind of things (lag) for losing some time and missing out on a race victory but it's a well known thing and specially when you have very close racing, those things can happen. There were some unofficial rules said some time (years) ago and basically dispite the anti-coll you should be careful when other rider is near you and try to take a little different line so a contact should be avoided... but when you have 6 riders who only want to win and ride as hard as possible and fight for every centimeter of the track then sooner or later with the help from some lag, the anti-coll file gets fooled and a rider pays a penalty for it.
This game isn't perfect but so the real stuff ain't that predictable aswell, after the race there can be only one winner (VOUKS) and the rest can only make some Max Biaggi comments... "I could have won but I had some problems in the race.... there was much lag.. chatter.... tyres... engine misfire... gearbox issues... I saw a plane.... or was it a bird..?"
This race had many unfair things but it had much exitement, drama, glory and the most important... it was a race to remember. I prefer it much more than a neat and clean race that after few days we forget about it as any other meaningless day in our life."

Yvos Arkos Froggy's Connection (13th, 17:04.161):
"Wooow!!... great race in top class session... very close. GG Vouuuuuuks, finally winner by a minimum gap, jumping Seby on the line!
Skider fought well too, and we have a general close up at the top of the standings...
My race was a good one, CrazyBoy, Thunder, Doohan05 and Kaiser did even better than me.... so I'm only 13th. I was supposed to fight with Dolz, but I didn't see him during race héhé.
Next round is Le Mans, home race... I'll be ready!"
