  News 17/06/07  Round 6. Italy : Mugello

Down takes his first career victory ahead of Guishermo and Skider, making it a full spanish podium in his only second race since joining MotoGP500online.

Down has taken his first victory at the historic Mugello circuit in his only second race since joining this championship. Right after Le Mans when down had a very bad race, Seby has seen down's potential and has asked the spanish rider if he wanted to join the Lords Of Shadows racing team. After few days down has signed a contract to join Lords Of Shadows until the end of this season. If both parties will be happy with the results, the contract could extend for another year.
Few days before the official race, down has started to practice with LoS' team manager Seby. down has been told that it will be very hard to win a race with keyboard and 17:11 was not enough to beat Skider. down did his homework and on racing day he showed his true talent and took the victory to the delight of his team manager. If you think the victory was easy, you have it all wrong, down has fought for it very hard and very bravely, he kept his nerve and saved himself from crashes in a tremendous display of his mastery on his new M1 and managed to stay in front of Guishermo and Skider even if he had softer tyres. We now have a new world class rider, a man who will fight for the victory in each round and we are proud to have him among us.
At the start of the race, the big favourite, Skider, did a mistake in the first corner, going into the gravel and losing almost 4 seconds. He provided fans with the sight of a number of thrilling passes in his goal to catch up to the leading group. As a worthy World Champion he fought as hard as he could to catch up to Guishermo and Seby who were his nearest rivals. After 5-6 laps with an incredible display of his competitive nature, he managed to get close to Seby but it took
him about a lap to escape from him, time which made his chances for the victory slip away. In the last lap he managed to get close to Guishermo but the Hurricane Miu Racing Team rider had a medium front tyre and he managed to defeat the reigning World Champion.
They both finished the race just over one second behind race winner, down.
Meanwhile, Seby had big difficulties staying on his bike, big tyre problems made him slow down his pace and allowed Vouks and Saber120 to pass him in the last laps. He managed to finish the race in 6th place, just in front of his great rival, SFW.
Thunder came in a lonely 8th with Transalp and Inara also joined in the skirmish with Thunder before eventually crossing the line in ninth and tenth..

down Lords Of Shadow (winner, 17:08.716):
"Thanks all.
I wouldn't have done this if CrazyBoy hadn't said to me that since 2005 nobody has won a race with keyboard. He said that it was impossible to compete against gamepads and I ended up to compete against them and also to win.
This victory is very important to me and I have to be thankful to CrazyBoy because he was the one who insisted for me to race and to Thunder because he did many practice sessions with me.
It hasn't been so complicated either, according to what I've said to CrazyBoy, it was impossible to win, and so difficult it hasn't been if I have obtained it in the second race since i play here and because in Le Mans I crashed.
After already winning in this championship I can retire of gp500, because I have won everything, less championships than this don't interest me that much. To win a race here was the unique thing that I had left in my file.
Thank you very much to all, and pardon me for my English, its not very good."

Guishermo Hurricane Miu Racing Team (2nd, 17:10.000):
"Congratulations down!!! Incredible, you have raped us with that shit keyboard, amazing.
A big GG to Skider too, he lost some important seconds in the first corner and almost passed me in the last lap.
My race was very very good, I haven't trained since Wednesday and I thought that I would lose some tenths and be out of the podium, but I felt very good in qualifying and I knew that if I did a good start I could do a good result because I was using mediums tyres in both wheels. At the beginning Seby put a lot of pressure on me, he was 0.2-0.5 from me and I pushed very hard. Finally before 4-5 laps to the end he was 1 second behind, and I thought "ok, be smooth and keep the position" but in the next lap I saw "Skider +1 second". Shhhhhhiiiiiiiiit, the last thing I wanted to have in the end of a race was Skider behind me. Fortunately my medium front allowed me to finish in front of him, that was the important thing because he has a big point advantage in the standings... I´m very proud of this result!"

Skider Oasics NoGrip Racing Team (3rd, 17:10.283):
"Congratulations down, you did it, well done mate. Hope we can see you at the top many more races until the end of the season. GG also to Guishermo2t.
I think I did one of my best races in this championship, I had a good pace during the trainings and I raced with Guishermo2t and Seby, unfortunately I went on the gravel in the first corner, I completelly lost the braking point reference and I couldn't keep my bike on the tarmac, even making a criminal slide with the front tyre lol, I almost lost the front there with cold tyres.
After that I had no chance in my mind, crash or do 200% until the last corner. While so, Guishermo and Seby were making a battle in the lead, but Guishermo escaped from Seby step by step. After the first lap I had 4 secs disadvantage on Seby, in the first 4 laps I recovered the gap so quickly and I catched Seby on lap 5 or 6, but Guishermo was a little bit in front, I lost some pace there but finally I cought Guishermo, I made few mistakes on the last laps because I had my front tyre dead and I couldn't overtake Guishermo2t before the finish line. Anyway, I've enjoyed a lot this race, coming back to the race leader, although I couldn't pass him, it was a nice and exciting race.
Give thanks to my team-mates fighting for their own positions and good luck all in Catalunya."

Vouks MotoGP Greece Racing Team (4th, 17:11.261):
"GG to Down! Also GG for next 2 guys on podium (Spanish Armada).
We already have done 6 super races this season and I think the best is still to come for all riders but also for Greek Team (Max).
Yvos-Dolz = 2-4, soon you'll be there Yvos, GG.
Mugello all spanish podium, where is the next race plz???
Close to 50 riders, well done all and of course to Katia Poensgen!
See you all in Catalunya"

Seby Lords Of Shadow (6th, 17:13.074):
"Congratulations down, I told before the race that you need to do better than 17:10 to win the race and you did your homework and amazed us all, very good performance. Also gg to Guishermo and Skider, all spanish podium. Skid probably did the best recovery race in his career (same as Imola '05?) so a big GG to you, without that grass trip (up for some picnic? lol) you could have won the race. Better luck next time mate... or NOT. hahahah lol
With one week before the official race I was able to keep up with the rest of the top guys but I didn't practice before the race so my lap times were much slower and unconsistent. In the race I saw Skid go wide in the first corner and I wanted to push hard to beat him but after 2 laps I realised I had no chance to stay in front of Skid with my lap times so I let him pass me at mid race so I can just finish the race without a crash. Skid was 4 seconds behind me after the first corner and finished the race 3 seconds in front of me, I can say he kicked my ass this time. At least I beat SFW (again hahaha) so my objective from the start of the season looks good, 36 points will be hard to recover for SFW.
But this year I'll have to aim much higher if I want to finish 2nd in the standings.
I'm happy for down because he gathered up some precious points for the team and we're now only 10 points behind Oasics. Also the constructors standings looks promising, 4 points behind Suzuki. Now we have 4 different winners from 6 races and the season looks much better than last year, its similar to 2005 when many guys fought for the victory.
Next race Catalunya, home race for most spanish guys and now that they had a full podium in Mugello, I want to beat them at their own game and circuit."

SFW Kawasaki Racing (7th, 17:14.167):
"Congratlation to the spanish podium heros and specially well done to Down... last race it wasn't ment to be and you missed the race but a great revenge at Mugello.
I had a pretty bad race and couldn't do any competetive lap times, when the tyres were good I was sliding a lot and doing poor times but once the tyres were a bit worn I started to go faster but the damage was already done and once again Seby finished in front of me.
When I look at the rest of my team then I can say that Akos didn't get the result we wanted but I'm satisfied with his preformance and about darkJr... yes I can agree that it was the worst race ever from him but looking on the positive side, the 1 or 2 laps that he didn't crash were competetive and that is a good base to work on for the next race."

Yvos Arkos Froggy's Connection (15th, 17:32.695):
"GG Down and all spanish guys on podium!
About my race, another thriller with Dolz, I beat him but we had a poor race... I had a 5 secs lead in front with 1 lap to go, and ... ran off the track, all alone! just as if I waited for him to fight but I was ready this time and mate, u couldn't do anything in that last lap!
Many riders again, with many fights in all classes, that's great!
Well done Inara, another top 10 and you'll pass me in the standings..., see y'all in Catalunya"

Bradders Yamaha England MotoGP (17th, 17:34.902):
"For one of my least favourite, and slowest, track I actually had a really good race.
Good battle with Jake for the first few laps until I pulled a small gap. I didn't try to keep up with Yvos and Dolz, as I knew I couldn't (I was barely managing 55s without crashes in practice) so I just tried to stay ahead of Jake. Dolz and Yvos made a few mistakes, which let me keep up with them quite easily, with one lap to go and them both right in front of me I went for it. As I expected though, I wasn't fast enough and just made silly mistakes, but it was worth a shot.
Anyway, LuKe rode a really good race, and is setting electric pace in Catalunya practice, which I can't see myself beating. He's going to put up a VERY strong challenge for the B-class championship!"

TT98-XL VLT Racing TT98 Design (31st, 17:47.253):
"I had one unfortuna freakish crash entering the last chicane, I didnt touch the curbs or anything, the bike just lost the front...
If I wouldn't fell off, I'd be sure to have beaten Bradders, and fight back in the championship, Im very very very dissapointed with this result, and I don't think I'll do well in Catalunya because it just isn't my cup of tea... but see you there."

In the rider standings, Skider extended his lead at the top to 29 points ahead of Vouks who passed Seby and is 2 points in front of the Romanian. Guishermo remained on the 4th place, 40 points behind Skider. SFW, Biggie, Thunder, Transalp, Saber120 and Dolz complete the top 10.
Oasics NoGrip Racing stays at the top of the Team Standings with a total of 187 points, 10 in front of Lords Of Shadow and 73 points in front of MotoGP Greece Racing Team. Hurricane Miu Racing and Nitram Racing complete the top 5.

In the Hot Lap Award Skider is first, 0.554 in front of Guishermo, 1.109 in front of Vouks and 1.518 in front of Seby.
