Round 11. U.S.
: Laguna Seca
Seby wins the fifth successive race
to extend the championship lead to 9 points over Skider, this time at
Laguna Seca.
Seby once
again proved that he is the man for the big occasion as he took victory
at the Red Bull US Grand Prix in another exciting MotoGP race on
Sunday. Seby’s fifth win from the opening eleven rounds of the 2007
series was also his fifth victory in succession, the longest winning
run by a Yamaha rider in the history of motorcycle racing’s
premier-class, and extended his lead to 9 points over Suzuki’s Skider,
who was third today.
In the Californian sunshine the Romanian produced the goods yet again,
eventually crossing the line just under three seconds ahead of Thunder
and almost six seconds ahead of archrival Skider.
The 22 year old Yamaha rider led the race from start to finish, bolting
from third on the grid and leaving the rest of the 32-rider field
trailing in his wake. Throughout 12 intense laps, Seby established a
one-second advantage over the chasing Skider in the first part of the
race before the Spaniard fell while braking, allowing Seby to finish
the race without pressure. Vouks finished fourth, only half a second
behind Skider but a significant 6 seconds behind race winner Seby. A
further two seconds behind Vouks was Kawasaki man, SFW, while Lords Of
Shadow pair Transalp and Saber120 were sixth and seventh. Luke
eventually got the better of veteran Dolz to record his best result of
the season, the German rider taking an impressive eighth. After
initially fighting with Skider for second place on the opening lap,
down progressively lost ground until becoming involved in an intense
battle in the second half of the race for tenth place.
Seby Lords Of
Shadow (winner, 16:58.521):
"I dedicate all my 5 victories to Ayrton Senna because most of the
races I've won were because others made mistakes or fell so I can't say
I dominated, it was a matter of luck, something divine.
5 victories in a row is something different, something special and it
doesnt happen each year so I have to enjoy the moment because I don't
know if I'll be able to do it again any time soon. Now I'll have few
days of vacation, away from gp500 and I hope it will help me stay focus
for the rest of the season and to be strong in the next races too.
The week before Laguna was very hard for me, I was a bit bored of
gp500, I've been practicing too much in the past 2 months and 3 races
in 3 weeks brings out the worse in us, very very hard.
Skider for a change has practiced very much but it seems that's not
always the best solution. He lost when he didn't practice and now he
lost when he did too many laps, I think the solution is in the middle,
practice but not too much. When you do too many laps you also have big
expectations and that leads to big disappointments if you make a
mistake so the stress of not making mistakes in official is also very
big. I did less laps than Skider this time so I had to use the strategy
again. I went for a soft rear tyre hoping to stay in front of him at
the start of the race, Skider to push too hard to catch me and
eventually make a mistake. That's exactly what happend, I had a good
start and after 3-4 laps I was over 1 second in front of him. In the
corner after the chicane he forced the brakes too much and lost the
front, from then on it was an easy job for me but I couldn't stay
focus, I slowed up pretty much. At the start of the race I was doing
low 17s but after Skider fell I couldn't stop thinking about the total
time, standings etc and couldn't do fast laps. I did some 18s right
after Skider fell, then few mid 17s and at the end I just took it easy
to be sure I won't destroy my advantage and did few 19s. In practice I
used to do 16:51 - 16:52 but the official is something different, much
harder and I had to be careful at the end of the race so the total time
is only 16:58, but that doesn't mean we couldn't have done much better.
Even so I have to say big congratulations to Skider for the amazing
qualifying time and also for the hot lap with med tyres. GG to Thunder
for 2nd place and 2nd podium of the season, looking very strong for the
future, keep it up.
I'm happy for Trans because he didn't fall this time and got a decent
result but I'm a bit sad for Saber who could have finished 2nd if he
didn't fall in his race.
Congratulations and thanks to everybody."
LuKe
Tornado-CreW (8th, 17:13.759):
"Good race for everyone.
Congratulations to Seby, Thunder and Skider!
Seby 5 wins in a row, not bad and Skider with one crash on top 3 is
also very good!
My race was really good, the best one this season. In Qualifing I had
some problems with my pc, the game crashed, so I couldn't do my full
qual time, but it doesent metter, my first race without a crash. I do
my best result with place 8.
We will have a nice fight in Class B in the last races of the year. I'm
only 8 points away from Bradders...
See ya all at Brünn"
Yvos Arkos
Froggy's Connection (14th, 17:24.418):
"GG Seby for this unbeleavable winning series... also Thunder very fast
and Skider... fastest for sure but bit nervous probably.
My race went wrong... I was confident, maybe too much, and crashed in
the first lap with my med front tyre, bit too hard on the braking and
confused by traffic...
Well, time to relax a bit now, and come back stronger for the last
straight line of this champ."
Atman Asica
Racing Team (17th, 17:32.944):
"There were 8 riders on start, first time by me as host, till now there
were 7. Also 8 riders is new maximum by official race in this champ. I
am happy with this fact.
After 8 laps in qualify, Luke retired and we went in race without the
real order of the grid, therefore by chance.
In first corner JC and Livingston went out in sand, for JC this is the
2nd time after Sachsenring when he started the same. I was second after
first 3 corners, but the whole pack of riders started to overtake me
and I was very nervous and therefore I made a mistake, JC cought me and
we fought for the next 2 laps and I made my second and last mistake in
this race. Well, this race was about mistakes. Gaz&Slide and JC in
the last lap, in which they fought for 2nd place, made 15 little
mistakes together...
Venturi rode strong race, but 1 mistake was the end of good results. He
rode outside of track on straight line and crashed in to the invisible
wall. It was 3 laps to go and Venturi was in second place. In the
middle of race Matt46 made mistake and I overtook him. 6 laps I rode
tight before him without mistakes till end.
At the end i beat him, was very nice to ridee tight before him and hear
the sound of his bike.
Next is my home GP, I hope the same full house, I am looking forward
to."
Livingston
Tornado-CreW (25th, 17:59.581):
"A perfect race for our Team. We had a good Pace and we had both our
personal best result for this year. Hope we can do this in the future
again. Thanks to my Team and the technical Man he works perfect."
Bradders
Yamaha England MotoGP (27th, 18:05.020):
"I had a nightmare - 3 crashes, slow laps and a ruined tyre by the last
few laps.
After two bad performances I've lost almost all my b-class lead on
LuKe, it's basically head-to-head from now on, and I'm gonna have to
race my arse off to beat him!"
With this fifth consecutive victory, Seby extended his lead at the top
of the standings to 9 points over Skider, with a total of 271 points.
Vouks is third with 190 points, SFW fourth with 163 and Guishermo fifth
with 146 points.
Lords Of Shadow remain on the first place in the Team Standings but
Oasics NoGrip Racing closed the gap to only 7 points between the two
teams. LoS has a total of 426 points. MotoGP Greece Racing Team is a
massive 177 behind the leading team while Hurricane Miu Racing and
Nitram Racing complete the top 5.
Thanks to Seby's 5nd victory in a row, Yamaha extended the lead over
Suzuki to 29 points in the Constructors' Standings. Moriwaki is 3rd,
131 points behind Yamaha with Kawasaki and Honda 4th and 5th.
In the Qualifying Award, Skider reduced the gap from 1.343 to 0.746 of
a second to Seby after taking his first Pole Position of the season.
Vouks is 3rd, 2.504 behind Seby.
In the Hot Lap Award Skider is leading Seby by 1.392 thanks to another
Hot Lap. Vouks is third, a little more than 3 seconds behind Skider.
Seby extended his lead over Skider to 6.899 seconds in the Total Time
Award, thanks to his 5th victory in a row. Vouks lies third, more than
one minute behind the leading pair. Thunder and Dolz complete the top5.
