Round 13. San Marino
: Misano
Guishermo takes his third
victory of the season in front of Skider and Seby at Misano.
Guishermo
took victory at the Cinzano Sam Marino Grand Prix at the Misano circuit
on Sunday after a thrilling battle for the lead with Seby, Skider and
SFW. As the race started, Seby took the lead after starting from Pole
Position (his eight pole of the season) but couldn't escape from
Guishermo who was right on the Romanians tail in the first lap. In the
second lap Guishermo made the decisive move at the end of the back
straight to take the lead while Seby couldn't stop the bike in time and
went in the grass, losing over 4 seconds. As Seby found himself 4
seconds behind the leaders he was forced to fight back as hard as he
could but could only manage to catch up to SFW before he made the same
mistake again but this time he crashed his bike, losing another 6
seconds; he re-joined the race in 4th place. Meanwhile, Skider missed a
braking point and went to grass, similar to what Seby did at the start
of the race. He lost around 7 seconds but could re-join the race and
started to catch ground on Guishermo and SFW.
Few laps later, SFW touched the ripple at the chicane and fell, Skider
and Seby went pass the Dutch Devil while Guishermo was leading the race
by a comfortable distance of 4 seconds. Nothing could be done until the
end, Skider was forced to settle with 2nd place because he lost too
much time when he made that mistake, while Seby was too far behind
Skider to try to pass the Spaniard. It was a hard race for everyone, on
a very hard circuit and as predicted, not the fastest rider in a single
lap would win the race, but the rider who makes the less mistakes.
Guishermo profited from other's mistakes and took his first victory
from the last 10 races and managed to pass SFW in the standings and now
lies 4th, 125 points behind Seby and Skider, who are equal on 317
points. Seby leads because he has more race victories than Skider.
A late charge from Thunder saw Suzuki celebrating at the end of a
difficult weekend, putting two Suzukis into the top four. The Spaniard
riding alone today in the absence of his injured team-mate Jarvis_Co
and coming through to snatch the fourth position from SFW.
Whilst LuKe relegated Saber120 to seventh place in today’s race with an
aggressive pass just one lap from the end, the German rider also moved
ahead of Max and Kaiser7K in the championship and now lies 15th.
Transalp was forced to settle for eight position after an impressive
start to the race that saw him take an early lead. Yamaha rider Yvos
finished in nineth position ahead of archrival Dolz in tenth position.
Team mates TT98-XL and Matt46 finished the race less than one second
from each other, in eleventh and twelve places. Atman, Fonta and rezist
completed the top 15.
Guishermo
Hurricane Miu Racing Team (winner, 16:50.341):
"Finally another race win, I really needed it to recover the confidence
after the holiday break and the difficult race in Brno.
First I have to say that I'm sorry that my connection lagged the room
by midrace and affected to my m8s concentration, as my bike appeared
like it was stopped in the middle of the corner many times, sorry
Skider, Seby and SFW.
This was a very difficult race, the kerbs very really slippery and if
you weren't 100 % concentrated you would surely crash. I knew I was
quick but I lacked consistency, so I started the race thinking on doing
a conservative one, but after the red lights that was the war, we had a
very very close first 2-3 laps and finally I got the lead and got a 1
second advantage to SFW after seeing Seby running wide after the long
straight (I saw him running wide but I didn't know that he touched the
gravel and lost some seconds). After that I tried to push as hard as
hell to get away but I always had SFW to 1 second (later in the replay
I saw that Seby was there again but he crashed when he arrived to SFW).
Then after some laps I saw Skider was second with a 2.8 advantage (SFW
crashed) and I tried to keep my pace, but the lag made GP500 go crazy
and the game didn't count one lap and I was suddenly fourth with 70
seconds to SFW. I lost concentration and I was nearly to crash 4-5
times with the damn kerbs, I did with worn tyres 1´24s, in practice I
was able to do medium-high 23. Finally we saw in the replay I was the
winner. I know this race was very strange because of my lag that
disturbed my rivals and all of them crashed or run-off the track
(Skider recovered more than 4 seconds after running wide and Seby lost
around 10 seconds, SFW also crashed), but I did less mistakes and this
thing is very important. I know I need a little bit more to be rival
for Seby and Skider in normal circumstances (as I was in the first 4-5
races), this will be very difficult in Estoril, Motegi (tracks I
haven't ridden in) and Phillip Island (a bad track for me), but I hope
that in Sepang and Valencia (home race) I can fight for a big and
battled win. See you in Estoril."
Skider Oasics
NoGrip Racing (2nd, 16:51.938):
"Congratulations to Guishermo2t! he has surprised everyone with this
victory indeed. I think this was the most weird race I've raced untill
now lol.
At the start I did a mistake, up 2 gears in a row and my bike almost
stopped, then I wanted to recover the speed and I put the 1st gear
again but my bike made a wheelie and I've seen myself in the tarmac but
fortunatelly I didn't crash. Good job Skider hahah. In the first laps
we had a nice fight between all 4 riders, sometimes I thought to keep
myself outside the other riders to avoid an anticol bug, but it was
just imposible, too many guys riding on the same line on the same time
lol. We were lucky that nobody hit the others. At lap 2, Seby had a
brilliant moment, thought he has Schwantz suzuki's on the braking at
the back straight and went out the track losing few secs. That was the
moment that ended my concentration and I started to think about the
champ and ride safely to avoid a mistake like Seby, but... I saw
Guishermo and SFW opening gap and I wanted the victory aswell, so just
2 laps after I did a mistake, did like Seby and went on the gravel lol,
I lost much more time than Seby on this move, so Seby got pass me again
by 4 secs. I thought lets try to catch him, it's very important if I
can finish in front of him, so I was pushing hard. But wtf, Seby had
another inspiration moment in the same place and went on the wall this
time. I overtook him again and tried to catch up the leaders (SFW,
Guishermo) dunno why I didn't see SFW on the gravel or so and I was
wondering if SFW could be in the lead escaped from Guishermo, so I just
wanted to finish 2nd in front of Guishermo but If I would be able to
I'd be the happiest man right now, because he had a terrible lag and I
didn't know where he was exactly, sometimes I saw him 300m in front,
then just 5m and that untill the end of the race, so it was imposible
to concentrate. Then, after the finish line looked on the final
positions and saw SFW 4th?? lol. I'm happy to finish in 2nd because
Seby was behind me. Also happy to see Thunder up on the top5 again,
almost overtakes Seby. But I'm terribly upset because I couldn't take
advantage after Seby made those mistakes, 14 races without a crash is
amazing, so it will be hard to see him on the gravel again. Now the
championship is really interesting, the most interesting ever. So I
hope we can see a gr8 fight untill the end, without lag, anticol bugs
or something else that wouldn't be fair for racing. See u all at
Estoril, have fun."
Seby Lords Of
Shadow (3rd, 16:55.696):
"Congratulations Guishermo!
I like the long chats with Skider about this championship, exactly how
we predicted, here at Misano the winner is the guy who makes the least
mistakes, not the fastest rider. Also it will take for us both (Skider
and I) to make mistakes in order for other guys to win races. Guishermo
you should really enjoy this win because you don't see very often a
race in which both me and Skider make mistakes. I'm really sad about my
race and not because I fell but because I fell exactly when I was
catching up to SFW. I really wanted to see if I could recover those 4
seconds lost in the first grass trip. When the race started I was a bit
stressed and not because of Skider etc, I was stressed because in
practice I fell in almost all races so I had to take it easy this time.
I had some really cold hands during the race and I was scared that if I
pressed the buttons too hard I'd fall on the braking. Usually I have a
good start but this time I didn't manage to escape so Guishermo was
right behind me in the second lap, he slipstreamed past me on the back
straight but he actually passed me right before the braking point and I
didn't thought I could slipstream back on him on the brakes. That's how
I went to grass the first time. It wasn't so bad, after that, all I
wanted was to catch Guishermo and SFW because I knew Skider was faster
than them. One lap later I saw Skider went wide, I was 4 seconds behind
Guish and 4 seconds in front of Skider. I said to myself that if I ride
smooth, keep my head down, I can beat Skider. I was trying too hard so
I did few small mistakes and Skider recovered till 3.5 seconds in 1-2
laps and then I was a bit scared thinking he would catch me till the
end. Then I put in a good lap, that 22.9 (dunno how I did it cuz I was
a bit stressed). I managed to reduce the gap to 0.5 to SFW but I pushed
too hard trying to catch the leaders and I braked a fraction of a
second too late at the back straight so I fell. I knew at that moment
my race was over, I feel a bit lucky to finish 3rd cuz SFW fell and
Thunder was so close behind me. I wish I didn't fell back then, I would
have prefered to fall in the last lap but not in the middle of the
race, I wanted to see if I can catch up and lead the race...
In a way it's good because we'll have 2 great fights till the end of
the season. One between myself and Skider and one for the 3rd place in
the standings between Guishermo, Vouks and SFW. This is the first time
the distance is so small (0 points lol) between the top2 riders after
13 races. In the past years, after 13 races the distance between the
top2 riders was: 54 points in 2004, 30 points in 2005, 51 points in
2006, now 0 points, cool.
It's my first crash in 14 races, not so bad. Skider is the fastest
rider, I'm the most consistent, put that together and we have this
great fight for the title."
LuKe
Tornado-CreW (6th, 17:02.219):
"Congratulation to the podium: Guishermo, Skider and Seby!
Best lap 1:22 wow, lap times were very fast, niiiiiice one.
My Race went very good. I could do nearly every lap 1:24s. With the 6th
place I make my best this season, I'am very happy.
Great Race also for TT98 and Matt, the B-Class Podium.
Bad for Bradders that he wasn't able to start this race. I hope I can
fight with him in the last races for the B Class Title. But nothing is
lost. We still have 5 races this season. TT98 is only 20 points away
from me, he has good chances to win this title too. We will seeeee.
See ya next race at Estoril."
Yvos Arkos
Froggy's Connection (9th, 17:08.394):
"GG Guishermo! nice come back.
Skider and Seby, on the podium as usual, well done.
Also GG Luke, nice 6th place.
As for my race, I had a good battle with Transalp and Dolz, till Dolz
crashed...
Then I tried to rezist to Transalp, which I managed to do for some
laps, but I had to let him go at the end. This is not so bad except
that many riders crashed or just did not finish, so no one between me
and Dolz, more than 9 secs gap, must be a record for #9 and #10
finish...
Anyway, I reach top 10 in standings, feels good héhé. Now I will focus
on Estoril, tricky track!
I hope more riders there (Frenchs), and Vouks back, podium standing in
danger!!!"
TT98-XL VLT
Racing TT98 Design (11th, 17:21.287):
"Well congratulations to the winner Guishermo, I have nothing to do
with the overall results, but it looks as if Seby and Skider gonna have
to battle for the win this season!
My race was average, I didn't do that many practise laps on forehand,
but I took the maximum out, for me this feels like a win, as we all
know LuKe is above the B-class.
I never expected to do this good, though I feel sorry for Bradders it's
not nice to loose points in such a way, I would have prefered to battle
it on track rather then taking his spot due to mechanical problems.
Apart from that VLT Racing has had a good weekend 2nd for me and a very
good 3rd by my rookie rider Matt! Well done mate!
I am now 2nd in the B-Class standings, and I want to retain this
position all the way to the end as I don't see myself beating Luke on
track. The goal for our team is to take 2nd and 3rd on the board, we'll
have to go hard all the way to the end so I think it's time for some
viagra!
Anyway GG all CIAO!"
rezist Rezist
Racing Yamaha Team (15th, 18:00.670):
"Well that certainly was a unique track for this season lol, too
difficult for me, plus I did not do a single lap of practice before
10pm Sunday lol.
Yet somehow I get my best result this year!!! hahaha
And now I'm finally closer to where I should be in the standings lol.
Well done Guishermo to master this layout..... I wonder who can take
1st place next year, on the reverse track hehe."
