News 28/10/07  Round 16. Australia : Phillip Island

Skider takes a big step to the World Title after taking his 5th victory of the season at Phillip Island and Seby could only manage a 4th place.

In another incredible race of what has been an amazing season, Skider left no room for discussion after taking his most important victory of the season in Phillip Island. The Spanish star's victory coupled with Seby's slow run, gave Skider a decisive lead in the standings as he now leads the Romanian by 12 points with two races to go this season.
Starting from Pole Position, the Oasics NoGrip Racing Team rider laid his chips down early pulling sharply to the right and nearly touching Guishermo, who led the race from start until the last lap. Seby and Vouks both had to settle behind the leading pair leaving Guishermo in a comfortable leading position with Skider on his trails. Skider has won the race in fashion, passing leader Guishermo in the last lap to take his 5th victory of the season. Guishermo's amazing pace gave his rivals scary thoughts for next year when the fight will start all over.
Vouks came in third with one of his best performances this season, managing to keep Seby behind him all the way to the finish line to give Skider a huge advantage in the fight for the title.
Seby managed to finish the race in 4th place but lost any real chance of becoming World Champion for the first time in his career. There are still two races left this season but Skider looks to be on a roll and it will be extremely hard for Seby if he still wants to have a chance.
A further five seconds behind Seby was fifth placed Thunder (Oasics NoGrip Racing), while Seby's team mate Transalp was sixth with Lipton Icetea's DavyB seventh.
Kawasaki Racing's SFW took one of his worst results of the season in eighth place, Arkos Froggy's Connection's Yvos was ninth and promising rookie Gabi46 completed the top ten.
Finishing 11th was LuKe (Tornado-CreW) who appeared to fade in the second half of the race, whilst EseNeen managed to bring his bike in 12th position, his best ever finish. Dolz, TT98-XL and Ronza746 rounded the top 15.

Skider Oasics NoGrip Racing (winner, 16:11.930):
"First, I wanna say that I'm very surprised about what happend in this race, as other riders of my room said, there were a lot of feelings and adrenaline.
I was very confident because I've always been fast at Phillip Island, but I saw Vouks very fast on track and thought for a big battle there with him and Seby. All the practice I did, I felt very good with myself and the bike on the track, I made a good setup on Wednesday and I was wondering what tyres to use in race, because last laps are always very hard. My choice was Soft-Hard, not very fast at the beginning but very consistent per total. I could only beat my pb wih race tyres by 0.3 with softs on qualy, this is normal, Im not a poleman indeed lol.
The race was very hard for me, as the green lights turned on, everyone passed me on the first corner, I was scared about an anticol bug, but fortunatelly it was all right. I saw Seby and Guishermo in front fighting for the lead, It was the first time I saw Guishe on track and I didn't know what performance he would make. On the 2nd lap Guishermo escaped from the others, I could pass Seby quickly and try to follow the leader. I was really amazed with guishe's pace, absolutelly an amazing pace, 1:27.3 two times in a row and he got a big gap advantage on the 3rd lap, then I could do my best pace in 27.4-5 all the race practically, although it was very hard to recover that gap.
Meanwhile, I was looking back and I didn't see Seby, thought he crashed lol but was Vouks who overtaked him and next lap Seby did the same, I didn't take much care about what was going on behind me, my goal was catch Guishermo at the end, because I knew he had med on the rear and could be possible to pass him in the last 2 laps. Just what happend lol, I was behind him at the beginning of the last lap by 0.2 sec and I overtook him few corners after to finish without throubles.
This result was perfect for me, I have 12 points lead but Seby didn't said his last word. Sepang and Valencia are good tracks for him, last year he was very fast in both 2 and now after this bad result, he will be very fast, the pressure is on me right now. What happend at Phillip with Seby might happen to me at Sepang or Valencia, so I don't have to be confident with 12 points advantage, I wanna give my best as I did last year. We'll see what happens, the game is not over yet. See ya at Sepang"

Guishermo Hurricane Miu Racing Team (2nd, 16:12.589):
"Hi all, first congratulations to Skid for the win and Vouks for being again on the podium and close to the first position.
It was by far the best race of the season for me, I practiced during the week and was able to do a high 27 pace with soft front and medium rear, without losing too much time in the last laps, although in the last lap, to ride the bike without highsiding was very scary. Before the race I made some practice with Seby (good battles there, there's a replay in which we fight in each corner for the last 4-5 laps and I've won the race by 0.015) and he told me Skider was able to do low 27 with a hard rear, so I didn't expected to fight for the win...
The race started and I got a good start, I was fighting with Skider in the first lap and suddenly after passing the finish line we saw SFW stopped in the middle of the corner... Seby had started a 10% race hahaha.
We started again and I had again a good start, I was able to pull a little gap (in my screen, in the replay Skider is very close to me) and I tried to concentrate to push as hard as hell because I knew that my only chance was being fast in the first laps and wait for Skider to make a mistake... I saw he was behind me after 3-4 laps at 1.3 and I thought "he will rape me in the end", but I was able to ride a 150 % from my possibilities (two laps in 1:27.3 and one in 1:27.4, I never did that in practice) and after some laps I was 2.1 seconds in front of him. Then I started thinking that the win was possible if I could do good last laps... My final laps were good, but as I expected the difference started to decrease and in the last lap he was in my screen 7 tenths (he did a 1:27.5 in the penultimate lap while I did 1:28 medium) behind, I still thought the win was possible and kept pushing, in the left long corner after the first three turns I did a big slide and almost fell, and then he passed me in the strong brake point of Lukey Heights, I arrived to the last corner with chances in my screen but he just raped my ass in that turn when opening the throttle... I dont know if Skider made a good or a bad race, but for me, after the disappointment of losing the race in the last three corners after having a so big advantage, it was a great feeling to be able again to have a big battle for the win in normal circumstances, unlike it was in Misano despite winning.
Now there are two races left to go and Seby has a big disadvantage, but enything can happen, this time he was unlucky that me and Vouks were so fast and I proved that in normal circumstances I can fight for the win (you didn't thought that bitch lol), but next time maybe he wins and Skider finishes 4th (difficult if he doesn't). See you next race!"

Vouks MotoGP Greece Racing Team (3rd, 16:14.552):
"Well I have mixed feelings at the end of this season and what I like most is the strongest feeling from all: next year we'll be even better than this year, all that because old and new guys are going very fast race by race. Off course this season have 2 more exiting rounds for sure and can't wait to see finally who will be Nr 1. The funny story is that in the joke area on forum where Seby added a video I add a possible results standings, I was 90% close to the real ones.
About Phillip Island BIG GG to Guishermo for the race and for the way he talk about his race feelings. Also Skider was very clever to take an important win!!!!!
GG to dry davy and to EseNeen and Gaby46, also good. See you!"

Seby Lords Of Shadow (4th, 16:16.898):
"I've been very busy lately, I've changed my room, had to move all the shit from one place to the other etc. I hope this break will help me in the last 2 races.
There's not much I can say about Phillip Island... I've always been a bit slower there than on other tracks, too bad I couldn't finish on the podium so I can have a chance in the last 2 races of the season. I've done my best in the race but these guys were just too fast for me this time so congratulations to Skider, Guishermo and Vouks.
I can't say I'll take my revenge in the last 2 races because I'm not sure if I'll spend too much time to practice but I can promise that next year I'll give again my best but this time from the start of the season for a change.
Sepang and Valencia are tracks where I feel more confortable, I won't have to practice so much just to keep up. Anyway I was sure Skider would manage to come out on top so I'm not too sad, in a way I'm happy because there's less stress now and I want to have fun and make it really hard for these guys if they want to win the last 2 races. By looking at my results from the last 2 years I guess I'll have either very good races, either very bad. One thing is certain, I won't be as slow as in Phillip Island. It's time to put the past behind and to look forward at the last 2 races, have some fun and finish the year on a high. Good luck to all this Sunday in Sepang."

Yvos Arkos Froggy's Connection (9th, 16:26.751):
"Congrats Skider, this may be your most important win so far... also Guishermo who nearly won and Vouks again on the podium and beating Seby after big fight.
Nothing is finished and I'm sure Seby will fight till the end.
About my race, I had a good one, following DavyB and Thunder having a nice duel. Davy surprised me a bit and made his best race of the year in dry conditions. Dolz was not in storming conditions and lost ground all race long... I still have some hope to catch him in the standings. Finally I got 9th place, only 4 secs from 5th... and well, SFW beats me by 0.003 sec (ok, he crashed...). I see new guys made some nice results, EseNeen and Gabi46, well done, it brings more interest for last rounds. Cya all in Sepang, a track where we should have some fun."

LuKe Tornado-CreW (11th, 16:34.193):
"Great race to Skider, Guishermo and Vouks!
My race were not very good, couse I crashed in lap 4 and it cost me 11 seconds.
But I can be happy with my position, I did a good result in Class B, before TT98 but it's fun to fight with you (TT) and Bradders for the B Class title.
Great Race to everyone, and to my Teamate who takes his first win in C Class!
See you all at Sepang!"

TT98-XL VLT Racing TT98 Design (14th, 16:37.248):
"All I can say about the race with "Seby", Rezist, Adam, Livingston and Darkbringer is that I was on a mission to get a time of 16:34, I knew I had to get that time because it was my only chance to beat LuKe on the track.
I calculated that I had to open with a 1:34, and keep a steady pace of 1:29.5 - 1:30.1...
In the opening lap I posted a 1I35 so I knew it was gonna be tough, somehow I didn't manage to stitch alot of 1I29's... eventually I posted a 16:37.2 which made me very very disappointed.
In the opening 3 laps I could see that rezist was close behind me, but that didn't bother me much, I was fully focussed on my own results and I could see Seby getting away from me which was normal, then after that I could see in the split times that rezist made a mistake because it was Livingston who was behing me, then it was Adam so I knew I had beaten them but the hard part was still to come....
In practise races I was able to do it twice in a row, so I felt confident about the official race I gave it all in official but somehow the bike was slower than it was offline.
I'm sad but also positive about it, I had one of my better races of the seasons with a steady pace, I'm only very disappointed that I just couldn't do a slightly faster pace. I hope I did good and scored some points for the read Standings."

rezist Rezist Racing Yamaha Team (19th, 16:49.130):
"Damn it! I had a very silly crash, really... it was either I crashed or ran off and into the wall, so I chose to crash so it would take less time lol.
I went to the inside for the entry to turn 6 (Siberia), the braking was fine but I was still leaning to the right as I approached the left hander... so I ran wide and binned it just before I reached the edge of the road.
Apart from that stupid error, I was very happy with my race pace, although I was expecting to take the battle to TT98 this round lol... but he was a little bit too quick for me, well done m8!
Even with TT98 on M-H tyres (or was that H-H???) and me with S-M, I couldn't get near him in the opening laps, and I tried a lot before I ended up in the gravel lol.
I want to say thanks to everyone from my room for making it alot more enjoyable than my previous races, where I've been racing with only Seby and maybe one more... 7 riders this time was gr8!"
