  News 19/04/2009  Round 1. Qatar : Losail

SFW starts his title defence in fashion by winning the first race of the season at Losail.
Seby and Vouks completed the podium in Qatar.

Interviews:
SFW Yamaha England-Netherlands (winner, 16:12.160):

"Yeah baby! this is a perfect start of the season for me.
GG to Seby for the 2nd place and Vouks for making the podium. GG to Skider and Creisi ( Skider is going to have a real challenge to stay the #1 rider in the team) and ofcourse gg to my team mates, GVG Dolz and Bradders nice strong result for the whole team.
This track has no surprises for us because we did the official practice sessions and for the race the setup was already made and i didn't feel like I needed any real practice for the race. I've joined an online session few days before the race but then saw that Seby was a bit faster and more consistent then me so i knew it was going to be a real challenge to win here. I did some offline practice but still had the same problems with consistency so on the race day i've changed the setup and made it a bit slower but got the stability back that i wanted.
In the qualifying I still needed to confirm the new setup so did the qualifying with race tyres and then on last moment changed the tyres but then was 1sec too late to get the flying lap.
On the staring grid I was very relaxed and had a good start and a nice fight with Seby but then after 1.5 laps Seby started making mistakes and never really had the pace like he had in practice. My lap times were could also been a bit better but i had no reason to push harder and risk making any mistakes, so pretty much the whole race i was in control and waited for other to make mistakes. By 2 laps to go Seby finally picked up his pace but then it was too late for him to make it interesting.
Once again I want to thank the team for the strong result but I think there is more potential in there and I expect them to be a regular force in the top 10."

Seby Lords Of Shadow (2nd, 16:14.109):
"Congratulations SFW for the victory, same story as last year...
Also gg Vouks for podium.
Also good race for the crazy brothers Skider and Creisi.
fabbsan also a good position, JC, GVG also good races.
I started practice on Monday i think and i was doing pretty well. Few days later i did some practice with SFW and i was able to be as fast as him and maybe even faster. On Sunday tho i didn't practice so much and i was also very nervous because of Ventu. I was too upset and too tired to concentrate at 100%. The official race started and i was side by side with SFW in the first
lap but from 2nd lap i got a bit stressed and i started making small mistakes so he took a lead. In practice i was doing low 47s but in official race i couldn't do better than 47.6 in the first half of the race, SFW went in front at over 2 seconds. With 2 laps to go i was too far behind to have any chance left so the stress was gone and i could ride at my best. I did the hot lap in the penultimate lap, actually both last laps were in 47.5. If i wouldn't get stressed so easily probably i could have given SFW a good fight for the win but this way the race was very boring. It was the first race of the season and it was very important not to make any mistakes, 25 points are good after all and now i hope i can get it together for Motegi and this time fight like a man.
Btw i host practice almost every night at 22:00 and also official Qualifying on Saturday."

Vouks MVM Racing Team (3rd, 16:15.011):
"Hi all and good racing year................
36 riders is ok not super but ok. 36 and only 3 (Greek) Kawasaki, wtf the bike is slow??????
GG Sfw m8 very good start, last year was a surprise but this year looks normal. I predict few up and downs for all riders as the championsip will go to 2-3-4-5 round. Seby GG for 2nd place (even if you don't like it) and thx for all the work you do for us.
About my team m8s Mgr will be stronger as the races go on, Tolis is a rookie in game and in champ so we are ok with his performance, and about Max we try put him next year together with Rezist in same team because most times they forget to race lollol.
Thats all at the time.... see you all (36) and maybe more in Motegi...."

fabbsan Motonline Racing Team (6th, 16:22.077):
"GG SFW for your win again...and again...and again, GG also to Seby and Vouks for podium.
I'm happy about my final position but a little bit disappointed about my race, i made many mistakes during the fight with Bradders the first 4 laps. My laps times weren't good because i had a bad pace and i never went under 1.48. I forgot too than during official i feel still pressure. Anyway i hope i could do better the next races and have some fights and fun.
GG to all riders who join this champ and to all the admins make it possible.
Cya and see you at Motegi."

GVG Yamaha England-Netherlands (10th, 16:32.683):
"Congratulations SFW. Perfect way to start the year!
I'm quite surprised! With all the mistakes i made in the race i'm very satisfied to be 10th. Didn't expect that. Especially not last year when i started in WSS. 10th in MGP championship! Have to say big thanks to my teammate SFW. Without him i would be a lot more down in the standings.
The fight for the rookie title has a good begin for me. In Planas, Promesas and Jarifumi i have some very interesting and fast opponents and i think it can be very good fight. Also the fight for second of team UK/NL can be very great, like Bradders said. The whole team did well in Qatar!
I left the happenings of Qatar race behind me and now totally concentrate on Motegi. Hoping for a race without mistakes and at the end with the same result (perhaps a bit better)!"

Bradders Yamaha England-Netherlands (12th, 16:36.769):
"I can see a great battle this year to be the number 2 in the UK/NL garage. I crashed on the last lap, I just did the same thing I did every lap but the tyre was a bit worn that time round and it went down very quickly on the fastest corner. I was pretty gutted but in the end I only lost about 4 places so it could've been worse."

Atman Asica Racing Team (21st, 16:54.353):
"In first attempt for qualify with 14riders, 6riders retired. For second trial I decided set only 12riders and Jeebee leave out room due to Guigui - I was sad, but we must start without them. Anyway, it was still 11riders. Everything went well, nobody retired, nobody complains, I started green light for race. For super race in history of this champ, because 11riders in official race together is new history. Till now 8-9 (2008 Motegi-Laguna Seca). I am very happy with this. I watched previous Losail races in 2006 - 2008 it were only 4-5 riders in room.
After start I overtook JC on 3.place and in next curves I was on 7.position, passed me Shakes, Erol and Promesas. JC and both top cze riders were on top. But was nice close. Erol next out in gravel and I overtook Promesas, who battle with me again. Next rounds I rode behind Shakes and also Blejz after many little mistakes come to sight. In the middle of the race I passed Blejz, was in battle with him, he fell down before me and also Holy fell down and I was on 4.position with some gap of Shakes, it was at end 6seconds.
I am looking forward Motegi, coming soon, next Sunday and room is open and hot for 2x12riders again, first race for medium riders, second race for slow/medium. See you m8s!"

Holy Ducati Corse Team CZ (24th, 17:01.706):
"Looks like yesterdays race was cursed or something.
I went pretty well, considering not having practiced much. I was close to JC at second place, but I couldn't accept his pace. Few small mistakes and riders behind me started to get closer. Then I made a stupid mistake. Full throttle and highsided. But what is worrying me is the fact that I got speed up. In this case, there is no need to take part in races longer than 14:50. Why practice and concentrate, when you know you will fall during the race. Looking forward to next race, hopefully without any problems. Congrats for the top riders."

SPIDEY Team Sask Ducati (33rd, 17:27.224):
"It is a coincidence it happens on a day where i am quite unhappy myself, but i learn to take it as it comes for this is life!
Nothing really goes the way we want.
My Qualifying: Two sessions held, in first session i had several breakups in first lap but it got better and i registered a 1.50.8 lap. On 3rd lap i was stuck, in a never ending pause. I was back on msn to find several other riders facing the same issue.
The second session of 5 min put me under pressure. I lived in fear of another pause, but i did a lap of 1.51.1. These times are quite slow, but i was ill the whole weekend so had no chance to practice. Race: I was 4th on the grid, and the lights go green, my screen minimizes to my shock and despair. I had received an alert from a friend asking about the session. Tough luck i guess, but i was in tears. I get the game screen back on only to find me stuck followed by an immediate crash. I was puzzled and started my lap, i did not even know if i was still in the session. Riding slowly till the 1st intermediate timer, i see i am far behind. From then on, i was dejected, but i raced for i did not want to ruin the session. I could not concentrate for i was mentally hit by what had happened. Only towards the ending of the race did i realize that i had never finished a race last, so i decided to push to try and catch Kike before the finish. I did so with one lap to spare albeit with several offs and falls. Thats pretty much sums up my first race in a championship season opener. A race i will never forget.
But nonetheless i come out sad, having not been able to take part in a battle with other riders, i thank Kike for a small battle we had, and a room of 11 or more riders ROCKS!!!
To hell "my bad luck charm" i will be back stronger(mentally and physically) next time."
