  News 12/07/2009  Round 8. U.S. : Laguna Seca

Seby took his 19th career victory in MotoGP at Laguna Seca in fashion, with a 3 seconds advantage over his main rivals. Skider and SFW completed the podium.
Seby leads the rider standings by 12 points to SFW. Vouks is 3rd, 47 points behind.

Interviews:
Seby Lords Of Shadow (winner, 16:41.260):
"Congratulations to Skider and SFW for podium and thanks Skid for beating SFW.
Also very good race by JC, good work m8. Snikolaus and rezist again good races in top10, keep up the good form.
I did quite a lot of practice for this race. I had problems most of the times, in 3 races from 4 i used to crash and the lap times were inconsistent. With one setup i could go fast in few laps but crash many times or have inconsistent lap times and with other setups i was consistent but slow. I had some great practice races, that identical lap time with Vouks in the same lap, that race at +00.000 with SFW and a hot lap of 1:16.1. By race day i've managed to find a good setup which made me consistent in low-mid 16s. In practice before the race i could do 16.2 hot lap and 16:39 in total time, with few mistakes. I guess 16:36 or so was possible for me but i knew official was going to be harder so i was aiming for 16:39.
Qualifying started and i could do personal best with 16.1 and after that i stood and watched the others because i knew i was almost impossible for me to go faster with softs. I knew fabbsan did 16.1 in practice but he didn't do it in official and to the surprise of us all, SFW did 16.0. This year i never could go faster with softs than with soft-med, i don't know why but i simply can't.
Official race started and i was hit by one of the other riders and jumped a bit in the air, it was funny. I wasn't worried, i knew that if i did my best i could recover fast. I was last in the first corner but by the 3rd corner i was 2nd, behind SFW.
I had a pretty decent first lap but also SFW and i wanted to see if and when i catch him but he went wide in the first corner of the 2nd lap i think and then i was leading. I was about half a second in front of Skider and i was very stressed because i knew from practice that Skider was very fast. I was doing good laps in 16.4 and 16.5 in the first half of the race, it wasn't great as in practice with 16.2 but i was satisfied. To my surprise Skider was very slow compared to practice, instead of mid 16s, he was doing high 16s and i could escape lap by lap. In the last laps i was at 3.2 seconds in front and i decided to take it easy, no risk to push harder because Laguna is a very dangerous track. In the last 2 laps i was slow, high 16 and low 17 in the last lap, i could do safe laps, look behind, admire the view from the track, all nice and easy.
I said after Assen that i will fight like a dog at Laguna and i was right, this victory was very clear and fair, not how Assen was but that's life, sometimes you win... and sometimes you are robbed.
Sachsenring and Donington, other good tracks for me and i'll fight again like my life depends on it. Good luck to all."

Vouks MVM Racing Team (5th, 16:53.915):
"GG Seby for the win!!!! and to the rest of the podium guys. GG to Mgr for being so close to the podium. Hope next races you'll be there.
Now about me, Laguna was ok but a stupid crash put me in 5th place. And now one think i will say for my past races, maybe i am out of rules as Seby told me in a chat so i ask that all admins have a look at that and give me a penalty if i did something wrong. I wait for news from the admins here in forum.
Next is that Seby as a rival say that his win in Laguna is super and not like this in Assen, but in his post at Assen he said GG Vouks for superb win.
In 2007 i take my first win in this champ after a wonderful race as all say in their posts. Just after the race in room 2 guys say not GG to the winner the 1 was Seby and he start his post with this words: 'Congratulations to all the podium guys because in this race, on track, we were all winners. The lag + the no-coll file decided the final results and it's a shame because on track the story was different.'
Well m8 of course you can say what but we need to be ok here where many people join to have FUN."

JC Motonline Racing Team (6th, 16:54.380):
"GG Seby or your victory!
Bravo for the rest of podium!
I'm happy for my 6th place, it's my best result since the beginning of the championship.
I hope to do better at Sachsenring."

fabbsan Motonline Racing Team (7th, 16:57.386):
"GG Seby for a new victory and also to Skider and SFW on the podium again.
GG to Mgr for his strong race and also to my team mate JC for his result.
My first crash finally happened in this race, i didn't feel good here, i knew this track difficult and i didn't thought to do a good race.
My start was good but after few corners i was last, my pace wasn't so good but i could keep the same gap with SFW near 1s during half of the race, i made many mistakes and especially in the same corner where i crashed. I tried to push to improve my pace, i braked too late and kept the brakes too long time, it was a so stupid crash.
Anyway, 7th place isn't so bad with a crash, i didn't thought be in top ten.
I hope this crash will be the only one this year but i know some others tracks where i don't feel so good, then maybe it'll happen again.
Bye all, see you for new races soon."

Snikolaus Lords Of Shadow II (8th, 16:58.840):
"Yeah, I was actually so surprised when I saw you suddenly passed me at the corkscrew. So I kept telling myself that I should get faster, so I did.
Overall, it was a very good race, as this is also my best result (8th).
Congrats to Seby again, keep up the good job m8.
Sorry to GVG and SPIDEY because they could not join our race, my lag was so bad when 4 people joined in Rezist's session. So thanks to GVG and SPIDEY for the understanding, that made me in front of Rez by 1.1sec lol.
Well done too Rez, you did great, really looking forward for next battle with you in Sachs.
See you all in next race."

rezist Rezist Racing Yamaha (9th, 17:00.001):
"Looking good Seby, congratulations for the win, and to the 2 Champions completing the podium.
Another equal-best ever race result for me!!! But i'm disappointed a little, because i made a few mistakes with braking too late etc, my best time in practice was a 16:55, so i was hoping to be closer to this time in the end....too bad lol.
Well done to Snikolaus for a great race, and a good battle, i got in front of him at the corkscrew on lap 2, but he passed me back 2 turns later....and then i could just stay with him, i was always stronger at the corkscrew, but Snikolaus was slightly faster in the rest of the track.
It was a fun race, but i doubt i will be up to the pace at Slowsenring... not exactly my favourite track."

GVG Yamaha England-Netherlands (10th, 17:01.170):
"I'm very surprised with this 10th place! For me this race was all about controlling the damage and getting some points! I had little time to practice and i'm not so keen on Laguna! And then i wake up at race day, feeling very sick (i heard so were more).
In the race it was very hard to keep concentrated. My first laps were just horrible. Made a lot of mistakes but fortunately the last 6/7 laps i get myself in a good rhythm and did very consistent lap times. Seeing the circumstances, i must not be complaining! Hope i will do better next time out on Sachsenring!"

SPIDEY Team Sask Ducati (13th, 17:09.226):
"GG to everyone. I wasn't going to take part in the race, until i had a chat and in a lot of ways a push from my friend GVG to take part.
Thanks for making me race Gerald. Also, i wanna thank DanDam for his great efforts in the last few rounds while i was away. Joey is always welcome to race for the team when he has free time.
As for me, I was out on vacation for a quite a long time, missed several races, and in the end had lost some interest in the game. I was quite literally just tired. But again, thanks GVG for making me race in my home track Laguna.
I practice for 30 min after a nearly 2 month break. Found the game hard to play initially with the new physics, and just could not focus to run decent lap times. I did a 1.19.9 finally which i soon realized was 3-4 secs off the pace.
Official Qualifying: I was nervous for i was about to try Seby's setup, plus i had no confidence in my pace. But at the moment, i felt the heat, and i put in a good lap thanks to the support of my home crowd. I lapped a 1.17.7 by far the fastest lap i have done in my 30 min practice. JC, Holy, Blejz and Atman looked fast.
Official race: I started off in typical fashion being last heading into turn one. I was nervous for i did not know what pace i was capable of and i had no prior long stints on the new physics. I managed to get ahead of the chasing pack, but by then JC and Holy were already a good 3 secs ahead. I feel i could stick with them had i been with them at the start, but i had lost touch with them and i had no pace or knowledge of tire wear to try and close the gap. After 3 laps i was tired, i was restless on my seat, i just wanted it to end, but i realized Atman was closing in on me. I remembered how Atman beat me last yr, and i did not want a repeat of last yrs race. So i put my head down, and slowly upped my pace (to my shock i was able to do). I started closing the gap on holy ahead lap by lap and then holy crashed. I eased to a 5 sec or something lead over Atman after which i cruised to 2nd in my race albeit some distance behind the "on form" JC. So SPIDEY is back."

Pity Source Team (22nd, 17:49.938):
"Hi, I knew, that the race in Laguna will be hard for me, because we had no race in Laguna last year in Czech Team Championship. I had a best qualify of year, for first time, I am in Top 20. But the race was hard, I had a good first laps, but, during the race I was out of tracks and I lost 5 seconds. But anyway, I finished the race in good rhythm. It was a good knowledge to race in Laguna, next race, Sachsenring, also will be hard, because this track wasn't again in Calendar Czech Team Championship, and I haven't also any data. So I try to do my best and we will see. I hope, that next time will be everything ok, because on Sunday I had no connection to internet and I had race in yesterday (Monday) with Dolz and Erol. The guys are very quick.
Thanks and have a nice summer break, because we have 3 weeks a break. Next week I depart to Brno on WSBK Race, Bye."
