  News 09/08/2009  Round 10. British : Donington

Seby takes a hat-trick of wins from the last 3 races, this time in a soaking Donington track. Seby extended his lead in the standings to 22 points to SFW.

Interviews:
Seby Lords Of Shadow (winner, 17:13.391):
"Congrats to the rest of the podium SFW and Guishermo. Also GG to Transalp for 6th and Mircea for 8th. rezist again 9th, very good, i think this season you will get that much awaited 8th or ever better. For me practice went pretty good. SFW has raced earlier than us and he did a very good race. Amazing hot lap and also very good total time, 4 seconds better than what i did in 2007. I remembered i did 17:13 in 2007 in practice but i didn't think i could do it in official. And SFW's hot lap of 24.707 was great, i didn't imagine i could beat that. When he did official i was 5 seconds slower than him and very slow in general, i knew i had enough time to practice to be at the same level with him but i wasn't sure i could beat him. After Sachs i started to practice and i had soft-hard tyres, it's always good to start with s-h so it can be easier when you change to soft-med. With soft-hard i did around 17:15 in the first 2 days of practice. Then i changed to soft-med and after 3 days of practice i did 17:15, 17:15, 17:14, 17:13.1 and 17:12.6 so i could improve race by race. I had the perfect setup and i also was fast. Then it was a matter of doing more laps so i can do a good total time each race, this way less chances to make mistakes in the official race. I did the most practice for this race since i play in this championship, i really wanted to win but i knew it was going to be very hard. By the time i had to do my official race i already had 13 practice races under SFW's total time. Only the hot lap i couldn't match in those practice races, i usually did 24.8 or 24.9. In official qualifying i did 24.6 but i made few mistakes in that lap, like SFW said, i think i lost 0.2 or so, same as him. But it was enough to bring me pole position so i was happy with that. I have now 6 poles in a row at Donington, in all years since the championship started so i'm very happy with that.
The official race started and i was last on the grid, i had the best time in qualifying before the race but Skider went to pits and his lap made the grid mixed.
Being last on the grid may have meant that i had to fight with some riders for the lead in the race but also that the first lap time was much faster than normal, i did 28.2 in the first lap, instead of 28.8-28.9. That made me have a good advantage in the total time but after the first lap i started to be stressed, very stressed and i did slow laps in the 2nd and 3rd laps, i think 25.6 and 25.5 or so. After that i could go back to normal, low 25s and 1 lap in 24, that 24.7 which was very fast and i was a bit surprised. In the second part of the race, i still did low 25s until 4 laps to go. Then i did 25.6, 26.1, 26.4 and 26.8 in the last lap. When i saw the lap time from the last lap i was almost sure i have won the race. When i saw the total time 17:13 i was very happy, this is the most important victory for me so far this season. I needed this victory so i can have a good advantage in the standings because the next 3 races will be hard for me so i needed all the help i could get. Racing against myself was very hard, i didn't have SFW to see where he was in the race, i had to calculate the lap times each time i crossed the finish line, very hard to fight like that. My best race in practice was 17:12.0 and i could have done 17:11 or so but i knew in official it was going to be very hard so i was trying not to make mistakes on this very hard track, specially in the wet. At the end of the day it made me very happy, i extended my lead in the standings to 22 points, the team is also doing very well thanks to Guishermo's last 2 podiums so everything was good so far. Without the race lost by 0.1 at Assen i could have had 6 wins in a row, still this is good, 5 wins from the last 6 races.
Donington has been one of my best tracks so far in this championship, maybe the best, i have now 3 wins here, all in the last 3 years and also a 2nd place in 2006. It's even better than Valencia for me, too bad next year the British GP will be held at Silverstone and not here, one of my best tracks is going away. I think i did a good job in these years here with 3 wins, 4 podiums, 6 poles and 3 hot laps from 6 races. It's sad to see a good track taken away, same as Shanghai this year.
Now the hard part will come for me this season, the next 3 races are not ones of my favorites and my goal is to finish in top2 in all 3 of them, maybe even take a victory if i get lucky.
Good luck to all at Brno."

Guishermo Lords Of Shadow (3rd, 17:14.904):
"GG to Seby for the win (another) to SFW to the second with a very good race and to everybody who participated!
I'm more or less happy with my result because the level is very high but it could have been better. In every race i have a problem. This time after the start there was anticoll bug with Skider (i was given time back) lost pretty much time and lost a bit the concentration... in the back straight i lost around 4 tenths i guess after touching the grass in the exit of the long right corner and the next lap wasn't very good... after that i also had a problem with the pad and lost time in Craner downhill when it didn't allow me to turn, but i recovered and did a solid race and my pace was very fast, i had Seby 5 sec in front and thanks to the hard tyre i could recover a bit and keep concentrated in decreasing the difference (anyway it was practice for Seby, he did 1,26,5 in the last lap with soft-med omg)... in the last lap i was trying to take it a little more easy but i almost fell on the fast 6 gear left corner i don't still know how i stood on the bike, 95 % in that cases i'm kissing the tarmac, so i finished the race feeling pretty lucky in spite of the bugs of the game.
It seems i'm now in good shape again, the 3rd place in the standings is almost impossible because my start of the season was very slow and i lost one round because of the pad, but if i continue like this maybe i can take once again a victory after two years... it would be cool."

Skider NoGrip Racing (4th, 17:20.401):
"GG Seby for your victory, 3 in a row and taking another advantage points. SFW awesome race considering you didn't have much time to practice (I think lol) and Guishermo seems to get the good pace again, well done.
I must be happy with 4th place, I did a little practice on Sunday before the race but its very hard to be fast and consistent without practice so its a good result in this wet conditions. I tried old setups from wet that help me to get a good feeling but it was very hard, when I felt good on track I was slow on lap times and other way around, when I was sliding everywhere my lap times improved, just wanted to find a consistent setting.
About the race, I did a good start but Seby got pass me in the downhill and didn't see him anymore lol, then I tried to follow him but Vouks was just behind me, he overtook me in the next few laps and escaped from me. I knew my pace was slow but I wanted to put some pressure to him, I could close down the GAP in some laps but I made mistakes and lost his tail, at the middle of the race I began to be close to him again and at 4 laps to go he made a mistake, he crashed on the brakes at the last corner so I was alone until the finish line, no battles but I felt good through the race at least. My only goal this year is to get 3rd place on the championship and try to find my best performance.
Cya everybody at Brno, hf!"

Vouks MVM Racing Team (7th, 17:30.752):
"Hi all...........
I feel happy (not for me) for top 3 because they show a strong performance in the wet. GG Seby, Gui and maybe a bit more for SFW because he did the race with less practice (i think). Skider also looks that he is going faster and faster. Fab also good because i know that he did a mistake in his race. For Trans the only thing i can say is that an old rider (old=many years in this champ) know how to take a good result). Rezist will be happy with 9th i am sure and Mircea need a GG because he try hard.
Thats all for now if i remember something more i will edit here..
See you all in Brno were MVM team need do some paper work to be on starting grid and fight for team standings..."

rezist Rezist Racing Yamaha (9th, 17:37.728):
"Congratulations to Seby with the hat-trick, SFW (due for a win?) and Guishermo.
And me! once again i have equaled my best ever result, 9th for the third time this year i could not have done any better this time...it was a good race, although i ran off the track at Craner on the last lap lol, but it only cost me 2 seconds which was good...and i was comfortably in front of Snikolaus for the whole race.
I used the setup from the Jerez IRTA Test 2008 with a hard rear tyre, and it worked very well, much better than the available setups (-0.75 sec) which are probably more suitable for non-keyboard riders, so that was lucky that i found the setup.
Now my big challenge is to finally get into 8th position hehe."

GVG Yamaha England-Netherlands (11th, 17:39.616):
"GG for podium guys!
Well, another 11th place. Apart from Sachsenring were i couldn't race, i can see i score very consistent. 10th, 11th or 12th. Feels good!
I thought i lose points here at Donington. Just like Sachsenring i don't like the track at all and had very little time to practice. Also i thought i would have a big disadvantage with keyboard.
The first online practice i did was suprising. I did a 25. In a offline practice i had hard time to do a 27. After not racing for a while it surprised me and also my result in qualifying (6th) satisfied me very much!
For the race i knew i couldn't do those times and in the only race i did in practice i was very very slow. In official race my times were much better. I had a small fight with Dolz who passed me in the last laps. I didn't push very much because i absolutely didn't want to crash. And also with a medium rear it was difficult. Perhaps the hard rear would have been better!
The Rookie title i have in the pocket, so it seems! The fight in the A class is big and i hope i can win that one. It's going to be hard but the next tracks are some of my favorites!"

Pity Source Team (18th, 18:16.562):
"Hi, I knew, that the race is long, and I tried to my best, on the beginning of the race, I had good fight with Xavier, after that, I tried to ride and didn't some mistakes. Unfortunately, during the race, I was a little long on brakes and I rode on the grass, but, after my "trip" on the grass, I crashed. You can see my crash on video from Atman. So, I wanted to continue in my race and did my best and finally, I take three points for 18th. place and it is not so bad. Maybe, without my crash, I will be 17th. Because, the time for my crash is about 10 seconds, and the 17th. rider was a 10 seconds before me. So, next round is my home track Brno, and I think, that I have a good chance to show us my best performance, because I have at Brno many KM of testing. We will see. Tomorrow (Thursday) I depart to Brno on MotoGP Race and after MotoGP race I will be on Monday again at the circuit, at the paddock, because, MotoGP teams will test on Monday, and I hope a good photos with the riders like every year, jajajaja. Bye."
