News 23/08/2009  Round 11. Czech Rep. : Brno

Seby took his 6th victory of the season on Sunday at Brno, in the Czech Republic. It was Seby's 4th victory in a row and he extended his lead in the standings to 27 points over SFW who was 2nd at Brno. Vouks completed the podium while home rider Blejz took 12th position.

Interviews:
Seby Lords Of Shadow (winner, 16:33.566):
"The gap is smaller than before because Brno is an old track, a track which we know for 10 years. It's a similar situation on other old tracks like Jerez, at Brno more because it's an easier track, it's the same thing every year at Brno. It's always hard to get a good result on an old track because there are many guys who know the track very well so the gap between riders is smaller.
BTW great pictures there Pity, nice work. From all the pictures you made with motogp riders i think the one with Rossi is the only one in which you didn't smile.
About the fight for the victory, SFW was strong all the time, last year and also this year. He was always fast at Brno (he has 2 wins here) and he was fast this time too. The difference is that i was stronger in the last few races, not SFW slower. He's been number 1 since 30 races ago, of course we all make mistakes from time to time and so did he but he's been very very hard to beat lately. At Donington he beat all my records from 2007 and total time by 4 seconds, i had to do work my ass off to be able to beat him and i was also lucky to win there. At Brno the same, i had 2 weeks of practice, i think 20 online practice races and he almost beat me with only 1 practice race, only 1 day of practice. He always had more potential than me (same as Skider), i win because of hard work, lots and lots of hard practice. The year started with 4 wins in a row for him and everybody thought the game was already over in the fight for the title, even me. Since then he made some mistakes and i did some good races and i won 6 from the last 7 races. There are 6 more races left and the fight is far from over, everything can happen, it wouldn't be a surprise if SFW starts winning now and nothing can stop him. That's the beauty of it, you can never be sure until the end. I am confident about my chances to win the title but i also know that 1 small mistake can make me lose it and the same for him, 1 small mistake and i escape. I think we'll have some nice races from now on and some better fights. Of course it's not the same for him, he already took a title so his motivation is not as big as mine, i've been searching for a title since many years ago. Maybe this will be my biggest advantage, motivation and also faith.
Brno has always been one of my worst tracks from the calendar, maybe the worst. In the last 3 years i did everything in my power to win here but i never could do it, i was always 2nd. This victory is extremely important for me because it came on a track where i usually get beaten. That's the way i can stay at the front, with good results on the tracks i don't like and where i lost in the past.
For the actual race at Brno, i knew from practice that i was going to have a great fight with Vouks because he was as fast as me or even faster. I also knew SFW was going to be fast, even if he didn't practice as much as us. The race started and i had a good fight with Vouks in the first lap, just like i expected. We also did very good first lap times and that was a big surprise because usually after a hard fight we lose time. Few more laps and i could escape a bit from Vouks but the gap between us was small so i was trying to do very good laps but i couldn't, i only did 3-4 good laps, the rest were slow. Then SFW came back out of nowhere, in the first lap i could barely see him behind on the straight line but at the end of the race he was right behind me. I pushed a bit in the penultimate lap and i had a 0.5s advantage going into the last lap, then i just took it easy, only goal was to keep the bike on the track without crashing. I managed to do that and i won by 0.3s. This time i won after a mediocre race, a slow race compared to practice but a victory is a victory, specially when it comes on a track where i've never won before and i also don't like it at all.
So congratulations to SFW for his great race with so little practice. Maybe Laguna and Sachs were easy races but Donny and Brno were very hard and i expect to be the same in the next 2 races at Indy and Misano. I'll have to keep my head down and fight for the victory again, no matter how hard it will be.
Also congratulations to Vouks for the great race, good fight there in the first laps m8.
Also GG to Skider for the pole which you stole from me so FU.
And last, welcome and GG to SkX for his first points in our championship in his first race here.
See you all in 3 weeks at Indianapolis."

SFW Yamaha England-Netherlands (2nd, 16:33.865):
"Congratulation to Seby with another win and also gg to Vouks with the strong race and podium finish. I think this was one of the better races we have done this year and after my 2 boring races before my vacation it was good to ride with pack again.
I only came a day before the race back from vacation but we have been racing on this track since the beginning so i wasn't worried about my preparation to the race.
My first practice laps I've noticed that there was a bit less grip then usual and I've used most of my practice playing around with setup settings. I did Practice race online with Vouks and GVG and Vouks really surprised me with his first lap speed...... he just took away. By the time my pace was around 50.0 but Vouks was one sec faster in the first lap and then did a 49.5...... so I knew I had to ride a bit faster to be able fight for the podium in official race.
In the official qualifying I put on the soft tyres for the first time and my first hot lap was also my best 49.5....... then saw that the rear soft was only good for one lap.
Because i already had a good lap I've tried to risk a bit more in my next 2 laps but pushed too hard ...... once was -0.238 in the split times but couldn't keep it.
For the race I had a good start but after the first hard braking i went a little wide and then Seby and Vouks just took off, I couldn't enjoy the battle in front of me because I had my hands full in Guishermo who was on my tail and wanted to kick my ass. Although Guishermo showed his front wheel few times he never made a successful pass and after 2 laps I could breathe again and set my focus in front of me. Next 2 laps Seby was putting down some very fast lap times but I was also doing high 49s so my gap to Vouks stayed the same, then as I expected Seby and Vouks to continue their charge to the finish I did 3 laps in 49.7 in a row and after Vouks touched the edge of the track after the first corner he lost a bit speed and gave me the chance to get on his tail, next 2 laps we had a good fight side by side and because Brno track is very wide you can do a bit different lines and still be fast. To my surprise despite fighting with Vouks I saw that the gap to Seby was getting smaller and then by 2 laps to go Vouks made a mistake on braking and went very wide and gave me a clear track to set my visor on the Romaniac in front of me. Seby was riding very good all the race without any mistakes but on last laps of the race I've noticed that he on some vital parts of the track doesn't quite hitting the apex and going a bit wide on the entry to the corners just to be sure to have a good corner-exit. I remember thinking... hmm if he rides like this I'll come just few tenths short at the finish and thats exactly what happened. I was hoping for a real mistake but he was just too good for us all here at Brno.
Like I've said, this was for me maybe the best race in a long time, it was good fun and hope for more races like this........maybe a different winner and Seby crashing of course."

Holy Ducati Corse Team CZ (14th, 16:52.784):
"Rezist is right. The gap between best laps of slower riders and the top are getting smaller, but the results remain the same. 1.5s gap between me and the top, and still 14th place. But I think its good for the championship, there will be more fights and more competition."

rezist Rezist Racing Yamaha (15th, 16:54.099):
"Well done Seby! very close finish with SFW who is getting stronger.
And good on ya Vouks, good to see you back on the podium.
I had an OK race, not the greatest but OK, it was hard to do consistent lap times... but i was surprised by the result! 15th!!!
This was my closest margin to the winner for this year, +20.5, but i was 15th!!! there must have been some "wildcard" riders that knocked me off...or maybe all the A class guys finally pulled their finger out.
Anyway, it's a good result compared to last years races lol.
See you all at Indy, i hope its dry this time!"

Pity Source Team (19th, 17:06.074):
"I am little disappointed with my pace in the race, I wanted to finish in top 15. But the race was good, I did my best and my times were good. But, other riders were better. My objective of this season is finish on 24th position in Championship. So, I try to get some points in Indianapolis, but, I have not so much knowledges with this track, because this track wasn't in Czech Team Championship last year. But, yesterday, we had test with the Blejz and Holy at Indy and I did some laps. I hope, that the race will be ok."

XavieRRR Wildcard (21st, 17:15.606):
"Hi guys, I'm very satisfied with my race, I think it was one of the best of the season ‘09.
But I had to run against the whole Czech Republic (I think Pity, Blejz, Holy are in this country. They are the guys against whom I have play the race). These men are very strong in the home circuit, and I have not been able to do anything to be in a better place.
Thanks and see you in Indianapolis."
