  News 30/05/2010  Round 4 : Le Mans

SFW takes his 2nd victory of the season at Le Mans and moves up to 3rd in the standings. Vouks came in 2nd and Seby completed the podium.

Interviews:

SFW NoGrip Racing Legends (winner, 17:07.056):
"Congratulations to Vouks with another strong race and Seby finishing strong after going off track. This is a real surprise for me to win this race. I have some huge problems with my internet connection and because of that I felt like there is no need to practice and just hope to pick up some points. 2 hours before the race I've talked to Seby and told him that with no practice and shitty connection I wasn't going to fight for good result. Seby told me the pace the guys were doing and then I went to make a setup and do some practice. It took me 20min to make a setup and another 20min to get comfortable with the track. I was about 0.5sec off the fastest times and I was happy with that. Official qualifying came and after almost 1 lap my connection went off. I did 3-4 laps offline and practiced few starts and first corner braking points. Lucky for me they decided to restart the room after qualifying and let me race with them. The start went good, first chicane went a bit wide but still good, then saw a Lords of Shadow bike (Seby) very brave late braking going wide and off track lol, few corners later I was alone in front and expected other bikes to get past me but the next lap I was still in front and then I couldn't hear any bikes behind me so i thought my connection went off again but then I looked back and saw my huge advantage and many riders close fighting hard behind me. Then it was very easy just keep doing clean laps and bring the bike to the finish line.
I'm sorry to see fabbsan very disappointed, a no-coll hit will never do you any good. Either you continue racing or stop and race again, it's never fair but it's the same for everyone. There are 2 kind of riders.... riders who already got hit by no-coll and riders that are going to be hit in the future. I sense that fabbsan has reached a level that after practice he feels that he deserves a podium or even a win and with some problems in the race it gets very frustrating and all is to blame.... even Greek riders lol. Well Fab better get used to them because they have arrived and will stay at the top until end of the season.
About the no-coll incident....... fabbsan was unlucky of course but then he did many wrong things, first of all he got thrown wide but straight on the shortcut of the chicane, fab could have gone straight and would even get back to the track in front of the guys and and get back to his position. For some strange reason fabbsan turned left into the gravel and lost 3-4sec there. Now he should have stopped but he continued to race and then made more mistakes and lost some more time.
Last race many things went wrong for me and next race someone will have some bad luck for sure but that's why we made some clear and strict rules about it and at the end of the season it will all balance out..... hopefully."

Seby Lords Of Shadow (3rd, 17:10.612):
"Congratulations SFW for the surprise victory, you lucky fk.
If last race you had huge bad luck, now you had great luck because your connection didn't stop and you also could take an easy victory, the rest of us made mistakes right from the start. What goes around, comes around, this time it was your time to get some luck. Enjoy.
Also congrats to Vouks for 2nd also also to Mgr who was very very close to a podium finish, i'm sorry i had to take it from you m8 but everybody for himself, had to do everything in my power not to lose too many points.
My race was the worst in many years i guess, even from the start i went to gravel and lost around 2 seconds. Then i recovered and when i was close to the group in front of me i started making mistakes again, same crap all race. I braked 5 meters earlier in almost all hard corners but it wasn't enough, i went to gravel many times. Maybe it was because of slipstream, maybe because of lag, who knows, the feeling of the bike was great until i was on the brakes, then everything felt wrong. I think i lost around 6 seconds because of mistakes. This race was even worse than the Jerez one lol, 2nd race in a row when i'm last in the room after 1 lap, at more than 1 sec behind everybody. I need to learn to take it easy in the first laps because it seems when there are so many top riders in 1 room things are a bit different than in practice. Tho even with all the crap, the race was very exciting and very nice, i had to race over 100% to get that podium position, had to pass few riders in the last laps and it was very hard. Mgr was 3rd with 1 lap to go and i was 0.5 behind him so i pushed very hard and could pass him in the last corner and take the podium. At least this time i didn't make the same mistake as i did at Jerez when i recovered and when i should have stayed calm and make the pass, i made mistakes again. Now i kept cool and did my job well, my last lap was almost as fast as the hot lap, was 24.946 which was good. Anyway, now i have to look forward and i need a confidence boost and i'll try to fix my racing in the first laps when we go to Mugello. In practice we had some great fun, really nice fights. We had similar lap times and also total times (me, V and fab). I guess around 24.7 - 24.8 hot lap and 17:04 - 17:05 total time. Of course officials are always slower and harder but this season it has been very hard and not only for me, for most top riders. I hope it will be better after few races and we can get into a decent rhythm and be more consistent in results.
I'm very sad that Holy missed the race, he is in the fight there for the title in Class A, i hope the guys who fight for the titles don't miss any more races this season.
Other decisions at Le Mans: Guishermo and Snikolaus both did their races alone so they had a 3 seconds penalty and 0.3 in qualifying and hot lap.
Also i don't like that rivals who fight in the classes are racing in different rooms. From now on, the main rivals from each class will have to race together, doesn't matter in which room or at what hour, but they have to do it together or the guys who race alone (even if they race in one of the official rooms), won't be able to win the race in their class.
About fabbsan: I had a chat with SFW after the race, after we saw the replay and we agreed on the decision that the mistake was yours and the re-race was not necessary. You did 2 mistakes m8, first and most important was that you went on the gravel. When your bike jumped you landed on the road which cuts the chicane (after the back straight). You should have used that road to get back to your position. You didn't, you chose to go to gravel to come back to the road, that was your mistake 100%. Those roads can be used on all tracks when unpredicted things happen, same as in real life. As long as you don't win/gain time from using them, of course you are allowed to use them. Even in real life is the same, riders who miss corners use those roads to get back on the track and they don't get penalized as long as they don't win or gain time and positions. Second mistake was that you didn't stop the bike so you can re-race. And this is known to us for many years, if a rider finishes the race there's no point to race again, it means he is happy with that race. It has happened 3 times already this season in the first 3 races, 2 times to me and 1 time to SFW, each time we stopped the bike and raced again after, that's the only way to go if you want to re-race. Even so, if a rider makes big mistakes or is too slow in the first race, he is penalized in the 2nd race and from what i remember you were very far from SFW, you were few meters in front of me. And anyway i don't think we can talk about re-racing as long as it was your decision to go to gravel when you could have used the extra road to get back. Both times was your mistake and please try to understand, i know shit happens but this is racing, you have to be ready for this kind of stuff, we all are and we know what to do. We all had bad luck this season and we all look forward to the next race without causing too much stress."

Skider NoGrip Racing Legends (6th, 17:14.102):
"I agree with you fabbsan about finish the race even if you were hit by somebody, but if you lose too much time in that hit you must stop, it's absurd to keep racing and you will have a 2nd chance (with penalty, but it will be better than with a crash or going to grass).
In some cases the hit makes you lose less than 1 sec or so and you can recover. If you stop, you will have penalty so it's also absurd to stop your bike when you are able to fight for the race or the podium.
Rules says...
If a rider has problems during his official race (lag, low fps etc) he can park the bike outside the tarmac (best in the pits) and he will be able to race again.
I think in your case you were hit and went to the gravel losing some seconds, its YOUR decision if you stop or continue the race.
I wish you better luck next time m8!"

fabbsan Lords Of Shadow (7th, 17:16.889):
"What a damn race and damn evening! It was a big fight in race with all "greeks bikes" riders, i was stressed with all these red and black bikes lol. In the middle of the race i felt better and thought i could catch Luke and why not Vouks, but i was hit and lost many seconds and went off track. Then i thought maybe i could re-race but maybe not, i was thinking about it because i finished my race with many mistakes because i was focused on my possible re-race.
But at the end of the race it wasn't possible because i've finished the race! And what's the difference if i finished the race or not?
All riders who were hit and lost time or crashed re race, that's rules NO? And i finished it because in my head i thought i couldn't and i was right, when i've seen i had to justify the hit and the possibility to race again, i stop to talk and leave. Since i ride in the champ (or WSS) i've been always fair, that's why i'm really disappointed and i just want to tell it. Have fun."

Franky F1Race Sports (9th, 17:29.601):
"Hi all! Congratulations to all podium riders. I'm very happy for a non-expected result in 9th. My first top ten, and my fisrt victory in Class A. I said that because Le Mans wasn't my favorite circuit, start-stop circuit, two chicanes... It seems like Motegi. And my setup wasn't perfect either. But in the race i thought to do my best without mistakes and try to get any points in the top 15.
I started so good and Dan crashed, it was important because he was faster than me (1sec per lap). I pushed very hard, with care, in another battle with rezist.
I'm very happy with the battles in this class, because the top riders are in another galaxy, i brake strong, and make good lines, but i don't know why, they go out of the corners so fast, impossible for me to catch them in acceleration.
See you at Mugello!! Italians home!!"

rezist Rezist Racing (13th, 17:34.173):
"Nice job SFW, shows that persistence pays off, never give up!
And Vouks a great finish, bad luck for Seby to make a rare mistake hehe.
And bad luck for fabbsan, better to think of it as a mechanical failure, it happens sometimes...
I never liked this track, too bumpy... so i wasn't hoping for a good result, 13th is probably correct lol. I had an ok race but really i was taking it easy, to make sure i didn't crash... so i'm happy that i didn't. Thanks Seby for his setup which gave me about 0.5 per lap, before that i was using a modified Motegi setup which wasn't so good lol.
Mugello next, one of my favourite tracks and not so bumpy hehe, should be some good racing there."

Pity Source Team (19th, 17:52.484):
"I had a great race. I took pole position in our group, so my objective was only a victory. I had a good start, but in the first corner i had a contact with somebody and I had luck, because I didn't crash. After that, I was about on 5th position and I passed many riders and try to catch Paul, my team mate. He was really fast, but, he did a small mistake and I passed him. After that, I just controled my position and finnished the race in 1st position in our room. Perfect race again! Many fights. I liked it. Much better than the race in CTC, hehe."
