Round 10 : Laguna Seca
Seby blasted
to victory at Laguna Seca after an intense fight with team-mate fabbsan
who came close in 2nd. Vouks completed the podium while SFW was 4th.
Seby leads the standings by 25 points to fabbsan and SFW.
Interviews:
Seby Lords Of Shadow (winner,
16:23.356):
"Congrats fabbsan and Vouks for the podium finishes, also big GG to SFW
for 4th, keep it up m8.
Max again 5th! very very good result, also lucky with the crashes of
some top riders, good work m8. Also gg rez for 9th, keep it up and i'm
sure you'll get even better results.
First victory in class C for wolf, good work.
A welcome back for Grooveski, just outside the points, next time you'll
get them.
About my race, i feel lucky to win this time. This year i wasn't as
fast as in previous years here at Laguna, which is one of my best
tracks, but i had enough juice in me to win again. Too bad for my crash
in 2008 because i would have had 4 wins in a row here, also lost the
race back in 2006 by only 0.3 so maybe this is my 3rd best track after
Valencia and Donington.
In practice i was doing pretty well, tho never felt too strong. I knew
i was able to at least fight for the victory but i wasn't sure i could
take it because SFW was showing incredible ability to go fast even from
Monday when i started practice. He was doing then what i was doing on
Sunday race day. Also fabbsan was very strong by race time. Before the
race i was thinking that SFW was the favourite and he could take the
win and i would fight with fabbsan close in 2nd.
The official race came and i had a pretty slow start, first 2 laps were
mediocre and fabbsan was 0.6 in front after 2 laps. When i wanted to
push harder to catch him, i got hit by Vouks. I can't say i was upset,
it was early in the race, no hard work done yet to be upset to lose it.
I was kind of amused because it has happened too many times this
season. I saw SFW in the gravel as well and i was wondering why he
didn't stop, after the race i found out he ran wide by his own mistake,
because he was laughing at me for being hit again lol. Then i watched
Vouks trying to catch fabbsan and i was hoping at least he could put
some pressure on him so they could both go slower and i would have a
better chance in my re-race. But they never had a fight, few slower
laps but per total they did a good race and i wasn't sure i was going
to beat them. I had the pace to beat them by over 1 sec but this year i
wasn't too consistent here and didn't have high hopes of beating them,
few small mistakes and the race would have been lost so i had to stay
very concentrated.
I was also going to have a penalty because i was behind fab in the 1st
race, the distance between us from the 1st race was going to be my
penalty in the 2nd race and i also didn't know how much penalty, i only
knew it was under 1 sec. So even worse for me and i was almost sure i
wasn't going to win, i just wanted to do a good race and get a decent
result, maybe 2nd, tho i was thinking i was going to be 3rd with that
penalty.
The race started, first lap was ok, pretty fast in 18.5 and in the 2nd
lap i hit SFW from behind (he was lucky because it was just a fun race
for him, the rest of the top riders were trying to put pressure on me,
that's why they raced). After i hit SFW i couldn't stop laughing and
then i remembered he did the same thing and then ran wide and lost the
race so i told myself 'stay calm mofo or u could lose the race like
him'. The 2nd lap didn't feel too fast but it was a good lap time, 15.1
or 15.2 so i knew it was possible to go like that all the race and
maybe hope for the win. Then i looked back and i saw all the riders at
more than 1 sec behind me, i was lucky to be able to escape and nobody
put any real pressure on me. From this point of view it's their fault
too because they let me escape and gave me the win in a way. I did few
small mistakes during the race but not any big one and i was able to do
15.1 - 15.2 all race long, 12 laps in 0.2 difference and from
consistency's point of view, maybe it was one of my best races ever.
The laps weren't too fast, i was hoping for at least one 14.9 and few
15.0, it didn't happen tho i hoped for it till the last lap and i
pushed as hard as i could but the little stress i had made me ride a
bit nervous and pushing the buttons hard so it made me just a bit
slower, enough not to take the hot lap, which i really wanted after
losing the pole. After i crossed the line i wasn't sure if i my total
time was going to be better than fabbsan's so i was very stressed, when
i finally pushed the escape button and ended the race i got the great
news, my total time was 1.2 sec faster than fabbsan's and i was very
surprised and happy. I knew the win was mine, even with the penalty,
after the race i watched the replay from the 1st race and calculated it
was only 0.6 difference between us in the first race when i got hit, i
was thinking it was a bigger distance between us but on a straight
line, the difference isn't that big, even if the bike in front seems
very far.
That was the story of my most important win of the season, maybe
alongside Catalunya, there i also wasn't too fast but i was very
consistent and could take a very important victory.
Lords of Shadow again a top2 which is very good, almost 100 points from
us to the 2nd team in the standings so the team and constructors titles
are almost in the bag, now i can concentrate only on the rider
standings. I need consistency, i need more wins or at least top2
finishes and i'm sure i can get them if i don't make big mistakes like
i did in the first half of the season. The fight for the title being
between 3 guys and for the victory between 4 guys is an advantage for
me when it comes to the title fight if i know how to stay calm and have
consistency in races.
I'm very sorry fabbsan for taking your victory, it wasn't my fault i
got hit, same as it wasn't your fault, tho you had a 2nd chance to stop
me or put pressure and forcing me to making mistakes and you didn't
take it.
It's the 2nd time i get hit by Vouks (like at Motegi) and also 2nd time
i win the race, if i am unlucky to get hit, i am lucky for winning in
the 2nd race, mixed feelings.
GG all and see ya at Brno in 2 weeks."

Sask Suzuki (7th, 16:39.697):
"Also this race has gone.
It's been a very tough race since the qualifying. I had never tried in
the qualifying the setup I chose for racing and I was very surprised
when I realized that the gears were so long that I could do most of the
turns on 1st and I never needed to use the 6th!!!!.
My lap times were very high. So I changed 5-6 setups until I found a
good one that made me lap in 1.15.832. I expected to do a 1.15.6 with
soft tyres but I was satisfied anyway.
I was worried as well. Max did 1.15.608 and Mircea, Holy and Serch
lapped in mid-low 1.16. So I expected a big fight among 3-4 riders, in
the first 3-4 laps at least. I knew I could do high 1.15 but in
official races, when you are involved in some fights and on such a
narrow track it's always very difficult to do what you used to do
during practice.
But the race went in a different way. After the first lap Max and I
were already in front "alone" (Mircea was about 1 second behind me but
he probably did a mistake during the second lap). It seemed Max had the
same pace as me and I decided to attack him as soon as possible, before
he could get a higher gap. But I went on the tarmac on the last turn
because of the slipstream. Mircea caught me up again but in half a lap
I was in front of him again and Max was not so far from me.
I re-started chasing him, but again I went wide on the first turn.
Anyway I had realized he was a bit slower than me and I thought to
myself "try again".
I had no more big mistakes but my pace was only around 1.16.3. I was
able to recover 2 seconds but they were not enough for winning. In the
last lap I played my last chance: as I was 2-3 tenths behind Max, I
delayed braking on the last turn in order to cross his bike and disturb
him. Nothing changed.
So, good game Max."

Racing (9th, 16:44.676):
"Well done Seby, fabbsan and Vouks, very fast...i thought i was fast in
practice and i thought you guys would be doing low 1:15's, but i was
wrong...
But i was kind of fast....9th!!! again!!! PB!!! for the fifth time!!!
so i'm happy with that, i didn't make any big mistakes in the race so
it was good, but i was nearly 0.5 per lap faster in practice, i did
1:16.3 on the last lap which was the kind of lap time i was expecting,
but all my other laps were a bit slower, up to 1:17.4 i think.
But even if i did ideal lap times, i still could not have reached
8th...so i'm happy and just made it onto the Class A podium."
